  • Patent number: 6099003
Abstract: A steering knuckle of aluminum or an aluminum alloy for a wheel suspension on a front axle of a motor vehicle, designed as a one-piece forging which has a wheel-bearing socket (2), that is wider than it is thick, with a through hole (3) designed to accept a screw-in bearing flange. The steering knuckle has a radius arm connection bracket (20) and a carrier arm connection bracket (21), offset with respect to each other, formed on an end surface of the wheel-bearing socket (2). A web-shaped brake caliper connecting section (25) is formed on a first side of the wheel-bearing socket (2). A neck (7), which is designed as a solid section with an arc-shaped contour in the longitudinal direction, extends from the wheel-bearing socket (2). A free end surface (11) of the neck is provided with connection structures (13, 13') for transverse links, and a trackrod arm (15) projecting to the first side.

  • Patent number: 6044678
Abstract: A method and a device for manufacturing a tubular hollow body with increased diameter portions which are arranged at a distance from each other using the internal high pressure deformation process. Initially an internal portion of the hollow body is sealed off at one end thereof and is supported on the inside at the other end thereof and in this internal portion is formed an increased diameter portion by a hydraulic internal high pressure while axially advancing the hollow body, and subsequently, after axially reversing the hollow body within the shaping tool, another increased diameter portion is manufactured in the same manner.

  • Patent number: 5107693
Abstract: A die (2) formed of two halves (4, 5) is placed in a container (7) filled with an incompressible liquid. The die halves have a plane of contact disposed in parallel relation with and spaced from the axis of a hollow member to be deformed within a die cavity formed by the die halves. Mandrils (15) are forced into sealing contact with the open ends of the hollow member by hydraulic cylinders. A high deformation pressure is supplied into the hollow member and the mandrils are secured in sealing contact with the hollow member against such pressure.

  • Patent number: 4916952
Abstract: A pipe supporting mandrel for use in connection with a mandrel rod of a pipe bending machine includes a hose-like part of flexible material hermetically sealed at both ends thereof and being provided at one end with a connecting piece attachable to the mandrel rod. The mandrel rod and connecting piece having a throughgoing passage for admitting a pressure medium into the flexible hose-like part. Before the start of the bending process, the flexible hose-like part is inserted into the region of the pipe to be bent and after inflation by the pressure medium it firmly engages against the inner wall of the pipe. After completion of the bending the hose-like part is deflated and the entire mandrel is withdrawn from the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4563802
Abstract: A method for the continuous production of exhaust pipes for automotive vehicles comprises the steps of continuously withdrawing an elongated substantially flat metal strip from a coil and subsequently bending and forming the moving strip into a longitudinally slitted tube strand. The opposite faces of the slitted pipe strand are then welded together and subsequently the pipe strand, while still moving, is severed into pipe sections of predetermined length and the pipe sections are then transferred to at least one bending apparatus for bending the pipe sections into exhaust pipes with predetermined bends; and an apparatus for carrying out the above method.

  • Patent number: 4331016
Abstract: A tube bending apparatus comprises an elongated mandrel having a length at least three times the length of a tube to be bent in the apparatus. A first mandrel holder is arranged at the rear end of the mandrel and a second mandrel holder is forwardly spaced from said first by a distance slightly greater than the length of a tube.

  • Patent number: 4325268
Abstract: A safety steering column assembly for automobiles comprising a steering shaft of variable axial length for connecting a steering wheel with a steering gear mechanism. A portion of the steering shaft adjacent the steering wheel is surrounded by a guide and support tube in which a bearing for turnably supporting the steering shaft is mounted. The guide and support tube, in turn, is surrounded by a corrugated tube serving as an impact absorber in which the corrugations of the tube are compressed into a block to reduce the axial length thereof.

  • Patent number: 4319471
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a corrugated tube from a smooth walled starting tube comprises a pair of receiving mandrels aligned spaced from each other along a preferably vertical axis and movable toward and away from each other to be engaged in opposite end portions of a starting tube. The halves of split corrugation forming discs and the halves of an end member above the uppermost of the discs, coupled together for limited movement in axial direction, are respectively carried and guided for movement in axial direction by a pair of clamping jaws tiltable between an open position permitting to align a starting tube with the mandrels and a closed position closing the split discs and the split end member and fluid tightly clamping opposite end portions of the starting tube located about said mandrels respectively between one of the mandrels and the closed end member and between the other mandrel and the clamping jaws.

  • Patent number: 4301959
Abstract: A method for series production of an outer column for a safety steering column for motor vehicles in which a first tubular blank is stepwise moved to a plurality of working stations in which the blank is deformed respectively punched to form a substantially smooth-walled protecting tube of the outer column. A second tubular blank is simultaneously moved to a working station in which it is transformed into a corrugated tube and subsequently the two tubes are fed against each other so that end portions of the tube overlap and the overlapping tubes are then welded together in a main welding station. Thereafter at least one pressed metal part is welded to one of the tubes at an auxiliary welding station. At least one control station is coordinated with at least one working station for the first tubular blank and at least one additional control station is coordinated with at least one of the welding stations for checking the work performed by the at least one working and the at least one welding station.
