  • Patent number: 10898676
Abstract: A urinary catheter has a tube having a proximal section that is insertable into a urethra and a distal section having a connector secured to a distal end of the tube. A lumen is formed longitudinally in the tube and a hydrophilic coating applied to an exterior surface of the tube. The proximal section of the tube includes a proximal tip end that is closed to terminate the lumen at the proximal tip end, with the proximal tip end rounded for insertion of the proximal tip end through the urethra and into a bladder. The proximal section of the tube is conical such that a first outer diameter of the proximal section of the tube measured at the proximal tip end is smaller than a second outer diameter of the proximal section of the tube measured distal from the proximal tip end.

  • Patent number: 10252291
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of a medical device element by means of extrusion or injection molding and to medical devices comprising such extruded or injection molded medical device elements. The medical device elements (e.g. tubes, wires, lines, stents, catheters, guides, endodontic instruments, needles, trocars for e.g. laparoscopic surgery, laparoscopic accessories, surgical instruments, guide wires) are characterized by a prefabricated shaped article or a thermoplastic substrate polymer having thereon a layer of a covalently cross-linked coating composition of a thermoplastic matrix polymer and a hydrophilic polymer. The method involves a coating composition comprising a thermoplastic matrix polymer, a hydrophilic polymer, and one or more photo-initiator(s), e.g. covalently linked to molecules of the thermoplastic matrix polymer and/or to molecules of the hydrophilic polymer.

  • Patent number: 10010697
Abstract: A urinary catheter includes a tube and a tip. The tube has a tube wall defining a lumen extending between a distal tube end and a proximal tube end, with an opening formed in the tube wall. The tip extends from the proximal tube end to a closed proximal tip end. An inside diameter of the lumen increases constantly along an entire length of the tube from a first inside diameter measured at the proximal tube end to a second inside diameter measured at the distal tube end, where the first inside diameter is smaller than the second inside diameter such that the lumen is formed in a conical shape that diverges from the proximal tube end to a wider cross-sectional opening at the distal tube end.

  • Patent number: 9427548
Abstract: A method of treating a hole formed in a catheter includes providing the catheter with an opening formed in a wall of the catheter from an external surface of the catheter to an internal surface of a lumen of the catheter such that the catheter has a sharp external edge formed between the external surface and the opening and a sharp internal edge formed between the opening and the internal surface of the lumen of the catheter. The method additionally includes pushing a proximal end of a mandrel into the opening formed in the wall of the catheter and rounding the sharp external edge of the opening formed in the wall of the catheter with a distal end of the mandrel. The method further includes maintaining the sharp internal edge formed between the opening and the internal surface of the catheter.

  • Publication number: 20150258303
Abstract: A method of moulding a catheter to include an integrally formed catheter tip is disclosed. The method includes stabilizing a core pin within a cavity of a mould with a mould member that is inserted into the mould at a location between the distal end and the proximal end of the core pin. Removing the mould member from the mould after the moulding process forms a drainage eye in a moulded urinary catheter. Removing the core pin after the moulding process provides the moulded urinary catheter with a lumen formed in the moulded urinary catheter with the lumen in communication with the drainage eye.
