  • Publication number: 20130031451
Abstract: A website and method are disclosed for helping a recommender to provide confidential recommendations for individuals. The system enables the recommender to efficiently comply with multiple requests for confidential recommendations, and to efficiently comply with a single request for a confidential recommendation to be sent to multiple institutions. The system eliminates the need to write multiple confidential recommendations when the individual applies to multiple institutions by enabling the recommender to distribute multiple links to the same confidential recommendation. The system also enables the recommender to easily edit the recommendation before or after multiple links have been distributed, thereby ensuring that the recommender retains control over the content of the confidential recommendation. The control over the recommendation link also includes a capability for changing the link expiration date, temporarily suspending or re-activating a link, and deleting a link.

  • Patent number: 8324156
Abstract: Methods for treating impaired glucose tolerance and early and late stage diabetes in mammals, for prophylactically sparing ?-cell function, aiding in preventing ?-cell death, preventing the onset of overt diabetes in a mammal with type 2 diabetes, treating the current level of glycemic control dysfunction of a mammal with impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes, comprising orally administering insulin and a delivery agent that facilitates insulin absorption from the gastrointestinal tract at the time of or shortly before mealtime, e.g., within about 10 minutes prior to ingestion of a meal, on a chronic basis. The methods also comprise, in addition to administering a rapid-acting insulin to provide a first insulin peak, administering a slow acting insulin to provide a second insulin peak occurring at a later time but of a longer duration.

  • Publication number: 20120253314
Abstract: A palm-controlled device is disclosed for injection of a substance into an organism. The device includes a palm-receiving surface for receiving a palm of a hand, the palm receiving surface being shaped so that the palm is substantially parallel to a surface of an injection site of the organism while operating the device. The palm receiving surface can also be shaped so that the palm is substantially perpendicular to a surface of the injection site. The device also includes an injector having at least one pre-filled syringe, the palm-receiving surface being cooperative with the injector such that when pressure is applied to the palm-receiving surface, the injector is actuated so as to inject contents of the at least one pre-filled syringe. Actuation of the injector is by gradual pressure; not sudden motion. Single or multiple doses of same or different medications can be included in a single injector.
