The preferred embodiment (10) has concave exterior sidewalls (14) enclosing a mounting aperture (16) for receiving the stone, and a vertically convex upper surface (68) which overlaps a portion of the stone. Sharply tapered apexes (70) virtually extend the corners of the stone and reflective materials help enhance the apparent size and brilliance of the stone. The setting (10) is adapted for use in various types of jewelry.
