Patent number: 8138947Abstract: A device for informing to a driver a speed limit set for an own lane included in a multi-lane road is installed in a navigation system mounted on an automotive vehicle. The device includes a road surface camera for taking pictures of the speed limit painted on a road surface and informing devices such as a display panel and/or a speaker. The speed limit set for the own lane is specified based on the pictures taken by the road surface camera, and the specified speed limit is informed to the driver. Speed limits set for neighboring lanes may be also specified, and if they are different from the speed limit set for the own lane, this is informed to the driver together with the speed limits set for the neighboring lanes. It is not required to distinguish the own lane from among other lanes included in the multi-lane road because the speed limit set for the own lane is detected by the camera mounted on the own vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2009Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: DENSO CORPORATIONInventors: Syo Ichihashi, Eiji Sobue, Yoshihiko Sugawara, Atsushi Hayashida

Publication number: 20090259395Abstract: A speed limit guiding device includes: a position detector; a information acquisition device for obtaining map information having road information and speed limit information; a determination device for determining whether it is daytime or nighttime; a specifying device for specifying the road, on which the vehicle is disposed; and a guiding device for informing the speed limit information. The guiding device informs a daytime speed limit corresponding to the road, on which the vehicle is disposed, when the determination device determines that it is daytime, and the guiding device informs a nighttime speed limit corresponding to the road, on which the vehicle is disposed, when the determination device determines that it is nighttime.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2009Publication date: October 15, 2009Applicant: DENSO CORPORATIONInventor: Eiji Sobue

Publication number: 20080065327Abstract: In a navigation device for use in an automotive vehicle, whether a present position of the vehicle is on an old road included in stored map data or on a new road not included in the stored map data is detected. When the vehicle enters onto the new road from the old road, whether a driving speed of the vehicle changed or not is checked. If the driving speed did not change, it is determined that the new road is actually a new road, and a driven locus on the new road is memorized. The driven locus is registered as a new road in the stored map data. In this manner, the new road is quickly registered after it is used only one time, while avoiding registration of a parking space or the like in error. In registering a new road, a driver's intention may be asked to further reduce possibility of erroneous registration.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 11, 2007Publication date: March 13, 2008Applicant: DENSO CORPORATIONInventor: Eiji Sobue

Publication number: 20070050134Abstract: An onboard navigation apparatus provides travel guidance on a road including a plurality of roadways heading in the same direction. The road specifically includes a special roadway such as a carpool lane having no exits to other roads, an ordinary roadway having exits to the other roads and a predetermined traveling-path changing area provided as a sole area allowing a vehicle to change a traveling path thereof between the special roadway and the ordinary roadway. The apparatus determines a present position of a vehicle, determines whether the detected position is in the special roadway or in an ordinary roadway. The apparatus provides, in addition to normal travel guidance, information on the traveling-path changing area existing ahead of the vehicle on a display, when the detected position is in the special roadway.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2006Publication date: March 1, 2007Applicant: DENSO CORPORATIONInventors: Atsushi Hayashida, Eiji Sobue
