  • Patent number: 4935755
Abstract: A printing head comprising a thin resin board, printing electrodes positioned in parallel with each other mounted thereon, projections of an electroconductive substance on the electrodes, and slits cut in the head between the projections, extending from the front edge of the resin board to a point midway between the front and rear edges of the resin board. An electrically insulating layer may be deposited on the surface of the head, leaving the projections clear. The thin elastic resin board can deform easily to comply to deformations and irregularities in the printing medium surface. The slits allow removal of foreign matter, such as dust. The slits further allow the electrode projections to contact the printing medium singly or in small groups, across the length of the printing head, rather than all at once, so that the presence of foreign matter on one electrode will not prevent any other electrode projection from making contact.

  • Patent number: 4748458
Abstract: A thermal electrostatic ink-jet recording apparatus includes an orifice for storing and jetting ink. The orifice is formed between first and second plate members and a longitudinal array of heating elements is formed on one of the plate members and is covered by an insulating layer. An electrically conductive layer is formed either on the insulating layer or the other plate member and cooperates with a counter electrode supporting a recording medium to apply an electrostatic field to ink in the orifice. The electrically conductive layer includes a central portion that extends substantially to the egress of the orifice in the area where ink is contained in the orifice and peripheral portions on either side of the orifice that are not in contact with the ink and that are spaced substantially away from the egress of the orifice. The spacing of the peripheral portion away from the egress of the orifice prevents a gas discharge phenomenon that induces instability in ink jetting.

  • Patent number: 4571057
Abstract: A recording apparatus includes an image bearing or forming drum which is driven to rotate in a predetermined direction at constant speed. As the drum rotates, an image is formed on its peripheral surface electrostatically or electrophotographically. The image, developed or undeveloped, on the drum is then transferred to a transfer medium with the stiffness of the transfer medium being adjusted prior to the transfer. The drum has a diameter which is small enough for the transfer medium to be separated away from the drum by its own stiffness after image transfer, thereby allowing to dispose of an extra separating device and to make the whole apparatus compact in size and simple in structure.
