Patent number: 9175406Abstract: There is provided a metallic glass component with its surface layer having both durability of a film and chromatic color properties, and a method for forming the surface layer. Surface active treatment is performed wherein the surface of the metallic glass component is reacted with a mixed aqueous solution of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid to remove an oxide film and to provide an anchor bond shape on the surface of a metallic glass component, and electroplating or electroless plating is then performed, to form a plating film on the surface of the metallic glass component. It is thereby possible to form a surface layer of a metallic glass which has both durability and a chromatic color.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2007Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignees: TOKOKU UNIVERSITY, NGK INSULATORS, LTD.Inventors: Xin Min Wang, Naokuni Muramatsu, Junsuke Kiuchi, Hiroshi Suzuki, Tatsue Arakawa, Hisamichi Kimura, Akihisa Inoue, Eiichi Makabe

Patent number: 6481088Abstract: A golf club which has a clubface of desired shape comprising an alloy metal is provided. The golf club has excellent strength properties as well as excellent ball hitting properties. The clubface is free from casting defects such as cold shuts, and preferably, free from the crystalline phase formed from crystal nuclei through nonuniform nucleation since the club face is produced in a simple, highly reproducible, one-step process by selectively cooling the molten metal at a temperature above the melting point at a rate higher than the critical cooling rate, and the product comprises a single amorphous phase.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1998Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignees: Kabushiki Kaisha Makabe Giken, Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Akihisa Inoue, Eiichi Makabe, Masahide Onuki

Patent number: 5740854Abstract: This invention provides a glassy metal-suction casting method capable of readily and conveniently producing a large-sized amorphous material with excellent properties as an amorphous material. Such an object of the invention is attained by filling a metal material in a mold cooled with water; melting said metal material by using a high-energy heat source which is capable of rapidly melting said metal material; and introducing the resulting molten metal instantaneously into a vertically extending water-cooled mold provided below said mold by using a difference in gas pressure or gravity to move the metal melt at a high speed and attain a high quenching rate to thereby enable the production of a glassy metal ingot of a large size.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1997Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Assignees: Akihisa Inoue, Kabushiki Kaisha Makabe GikenInventors: Akihisa Inoue, Tao Zhang, Eiichi Makabe

Patent number: 4716459Abstract: A distance between a distal end of a crack formed in a fatigue test piece on which a reference line is scribed, and the reference line, is monitored. The reference line and the crack are scanned with an ITV camera to prepare the fatigue test piece having the crack of a predetermined length. Luminance levels are integrated from a video signal obtained by scanning each raster in the same direction as that of the reference line to obtain a maximum luminance level, and the reference line position is detected from the maximum luminance level. At the same time, continuity of a high-level value is discriminated from the video signal, and a crack distal end position is detected from the discrimination result. A difference between both the detected positions is calculated, and the test piece is machined so that the difference corresponds to the predetermined length.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1986Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Nippon Kokan Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Eiichi Makabe, Mitsuaki Uesugi, Masaichi Inomata, Kyusuke Maruyama, Kenji Iwai, Kazuo Sano

Patent number: 4643587Abstract: The tip of an alloy rod in a vacuum chamber is remelted by radiation with an electron beam from an electron gun and the remelted droplets fall into a mold where they solidify. The droplets are scanned a plurality of times through a window provided on the vacuum chamber by an image pickup device as they pass its field of view. From the signal of the maximum level obtained during these scans, temperature data of the droplet is obtained by a temperature measurement control device.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1985Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Assignee: Nippon Kokan Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Eiichi Makabe, Naoki Harada, Kiyotaka Imai, Yoshiro Hosoda, Akira Kato
