  • Patent number: 5271716
Abstract: A coreless torque converter includes a pump impeller provided with coreless blades each having a first leading edge directed forward; a turbine runner provided with coreless blades each having a second leading edge directed rearward; and a stator provided with coreless blades each having front and rear edges which face the second and first leading edges respectively. Each of the first and second leading edges extends generally straight connecting radially outward and inward terminal ends thereof.

  • Patent number: 5255516
Abstract: In a torque converter of a coreless type allowing and utilizing a fluid flow in a central core region, the impeller blade exit angle is made smaller in the central core region than in an outer region surrounding the core region so as to increase the velocity and amount of the fluid flow circulating in the outer region and participating in torque multiplication, and decrease the velocity and amount of the fluid flow circulating in the core region like the fluid flow in a fluid coupling.

  • Patent number: 5224348
Abstract: A coreless torque converter has a unique layout or arrangement of stator, pump impeller and turbine runner, in which at least one of these elements has a portion formed to have an axial dimension which is reduced to minimize an offset amount of a center of swirl generated by working fluid recirculating through the converter to provide a high torque ratio and improved efficiency.
