  • Publication number: 20010025885
Abstract: A magnetic card reader 1 is adapted to make a magnetic card and magnetic heads 4 to relatively move with respect to each other and also adapted to demodulate data, which is recorded on the magnetic card and obtained by the magnetic heads 4. This magnetic card reader 1 comprises two magnetic heads 4a and 4b arranged in a direction, in which each of the magnetic heads 4a and 4b relatively moves with respect to the magnetic card, and adapted to take in the same data from the magnetic card and to obtain two demodulated data, an error detecting portion 5 for detecting an error in at least one of the two demodulated data, and an error correcting portion 6 for correcting the error, which is detected by the error detecting portion 5, by using the other demodulated data. When a read error is detected, the error correcting portion 6 corrects an erroneous part of one of the two demodulated data into normal data by using the other demodulated data.

  • Patent number: 6199760
Abstract: When, in the case where card take-in means 3 takes in a magnetic card 10, a magnetic head 4 outputs a predetermined reproducing signal, the magnetic card is taken in; and when the predetermined reproducing signal is not outputted by the magnetic head, the magnetic card take-in operation is stopped. The magnetic head 4 is provided near a card inserting inlet 2, so that, when the card take-in operation is stopped, the rear end 10a of the card 10 is protruded from the card inserting inlet 2.

  • Patent number: 6189791
Abstract: A magnetic card reader comprises a card insertion slot, a magnetic head for regenerating or recording magnetic information formed on a card to be inserted in the cart insertion slot and a determining device to determine coercive force of a data track for recording magnetic information of the card. A method for determining the coercive force of a magnetic card in a magnetic card reader in which magnetic information formed on a card to be inserted from a card insertion slot is regenerated or recorded by a magnetic head comprises the steps of providing a detecting portion which detects a change in static characteristics of the magnetic head and determining the coercive force of a data track by comparing output from the detecting portion, which detects a change in static characteristics of the magnetic head while being positioned across from the card, with a reference signal.

  • Patent number: 5734535
Abstract: A magnetic head having a head unit for contacting a magnetic medium comprises at least a pair of magnetic cores which are arranged in the head unit which face each other on sides of a magnetic gap for recording and/or reproducing signals. A spacer is included for maintaining a space between one of the magnetic cores and another member, which may be the other magnetic core or a shield member. The spacer includes a usable life detection device for providing an indication of wear on the head unit which is interrupted when the head unit is worn down to predetermined depth. A device for electrically sensing an interruption of the indication is provided so that a usable lifetime of the head unit can be determined.

  • Patent number: 4332187
Abstract: An automotive air intake housing for introducing fresh air into an air conditioner includes a cowl box and an air box through which the fresh air passes, a dash side panel having two openings, one for communicating the cowl box with the air box and the other for communicating the air box with the air conditioner, and a wiring harness passing through the air box between the engine and passenger compartments. Since the wiring harness does not pass directly through the automobile firewall, but rather circumvents it by passing through the air intake housing, engine noise entering the passenger compartment is thereby reduced.
