  • Publication number: 20040081042
Abstract: An optical disc drive includes an optical system, a photodetector, a filter, a phase difference detecting section, a signal generating section, and a control section. The optical system focuses a light beam on an optical disc loaded. The photodetector includes areas to receive the light beam reflected from the disc and generates read signals representing quantities of light received. The filter receives the read signals and outputs processed signals with a frequency component of the read signals attenuated according to mark lengths. The phase difference detecting section detects a phase difference between the processed signals. The signal generating section generates a tracking error signal, representing a positional relationship between the focal point and a target track, based on the phase difference. The control section generates a control signal based on the tracking error signal such that the focal point is controlled across the tracks on the disc.

  • Publication number: 20040039930
Abstract: The present invention provides a recording medium that is protected against unauthorized use, that therefore has heightened security. The recording medium stores thereon storage authentication information that authenticates a user, and has an area that corresponds to the storage authentication information. The recording medium further has an authentication unit that is tamper-resistant and that judges whether reception authentication information that authenticates a user matches the storage authentication information. Because of being tamper-resistant, the authentication unit is prevented from being decoded or tampered by third parties. In addition, because the area is corresponded to the storage authentication information, it becomes possible to restrict the access to the area according to the content of authentication.

  • Publication number: 20030216924
Abstract: A digital recording system for stereophonic audio signals is disclosed. Included is an MP3 encoder coupled to an ADC for encoding the two channels of digital audio signals into a compressed data stream. Before being directed into a flash memory for editing, the compressed data stream is split into the original two channels of audio data blocks. An editing device is coupled to the flash memory for block-by-block editing of the stored audio data blocks. On being subsequently retrieved from the flash memory, the two channels of audio data blocks are reformatted into an MP3 data stream preparatory to introduction into an MP3 decoder.

  • Publication number: 20030210904
Abstract: To provide an information acquisition system that allows specific information related to an object item, etc., which is exhibited at an exhibition site, to be acquired concurrently with taking an image thereof by a picture taking device. An ID transmitter 30 provided to an object 20 transmits object ID that enables identification of the object. When an image of the object 20 is taken at a position where the object ID can be received, an image taking device 10 obtains the object ID together with the taken image. The image taking device 10 transmits the obtained object ID to an information server 40. The information server 40 returns source information (for example, a URL where information such as product performance and a price related to the object can be acquired) corresponding to the received object ID to the image taking device 10. The image taking device 10 stores the received source information together with the taken image.
