  • Patent number: 7973656
Abstract: A device for detecting a suspicious activity, efficiently performing surveillance of a person and vehicle detected by a surveillance camera. The device uses signal generation means, a sensor for receiving a signal from the signal generation means, and image data taken by the camera. The device detects mobile bodies, such as a person and a vehicle, included in an image taken by the camera and uses them as mobile body information, uses as authentication information an ID number represented by a signal received by the sensor, defines permitted activities and prohibited activities according to authorized activities corresponding to authentication information, and issues an alarm when the device detects that an activity represented by mobile body activity information is a illegal or prohibited activity.

  • Patent number: 7522766
Abstract: A method for reading a picture is provided which is capable of removing adverse effects caused by lighting conditions or a like. A principal color extracting section extracts principal colors from a color image input by an image inputting section based on a local peak value shown in a color histogram obtained from the color image and divides the color image into principal color images each corresponding to each of the extracted principal colors. A combination creating section creates a combined image by combining separated principal color images. A picture region extracting section extracts character region candidates from the principal color image and combined image. A picture recognizing section performs character recognizing processing on all extracted character region candidates to obtain the best character reading result according to a character recognizing confidence of character recognizing processing results.

  • Patent number: 6014460
Abstract: A character strings reading device for reading character strings from input image data comprises cut-out recognition means for cutting out a segment corresponding to one character from the image data to perform individual character recognition every segment, a recognition result buffer for storing a recognition result of the cut-out recognition means, word searching means for searching a word string candidate corresponding to a combination of character candidates in the recognition result buffer, a word string candidate buffer for storing a search result of the word searching means, check portion determining means for determining a check target portion and a presumed character string of the check target portion on the basis of the result in the word string candidate buffer, and check means for judging the possibility of existence of the presumed character string on the check portion.
