  • Patent number: 4832569
Abstract: Wind energy converting machine comprising a solid rotating ring carrying airfoils which are governed to have an optimal angle of attack to the wind approaching each of them when the wind velocity is below a chosen limit. In stronger wind the angles of attack are decreased to limit the power uptake. The ring is supported by stationary rollers which act as friction wheels to transfer the power to electric generators or the like. An example is described in which 90 airfoils, 30 meters high and with 3.6 meters root chord, perform a track of 200 meters diameter, at a speed of 8 m/sec. This turbine is calculated to produce 3.75 megaWatt in a wind of a velocity of 10 m/sec. or higher.

  • Patent number: 4330346
Abstract: A cap-sensitive explosive composition in powder form contains, in addition to ammonium nitrate as its single oxygen releasing component, and optional components commonly used in explosive compositions, four components within specific weight ranges, calculated on the basis of the weight of the explosive composition:(a) 3 to 8% of a combustible liquid consisting of one or more completely water soluble components, having a boiling temperature of above 120.degree. C., and being capable of dissolving ammonium nitrate in amounts of between 20 grams and 100 grams per 100 grams of said liquid without reacting chemically with ammonium nitrate;(b) 0.5 to 2.5% of a water blocking agent consisting of a high molecular weight polysaccharide having the property of imparting high viscosity to an aqueous, saturated ammonium nitrate solution;(c) 0.

  • Patent number: 4213712
Abstract: The continuous production of an explosive is achieved by intermixing at least two liquid component streams in an apparatus including a mixing rotor generally formed like a turbine impeller and freely rotatably supported in a housing directly opposite an inlet opening for one of the liquid components. The passing liquid stream imparts a rotational motion to the mixing rotor and the liquid components are effectively mixed by shear and turbulence in an annular narrow mixing zone between the outer periphery of the rotor and the inner wall of the housing. Preferably the entire surface of the mixing rotor is surrounded by the flowing liquid components, thus providing a low friction hydrostatic rotor support.

  • Patent number: 4084995
Abstract: In preparing an explosive composition whose oxidizing components are a mixture of ammonium and calcium nitrate, the nitrate components are heated to temperatures where anhydrous double salts are formed together with some liquid phase. By subsequent cooling of the mixture under sustained mechanical agitation and the addition of a liquid fuel, a dry, free-flowing, cap sensitive particulate explosive composition is formed.
