    Abstract: A magnetic head for attachment to a drum includes two magnetic cores butted against each other, and a gap is formed therebetween. A glass is bonded to the upper butted portion. A winding is provided on the magnetic cores, and electromagnetic transformation is carried out. On the sliding face of the magnetic head, two grooves and are formed with the gap positioned therebetween at positions symmetrical with each other in a rotation direction of the drum to provide good contact between the magnetic head and a magnetic tape or other magnetic medium. A protective film is formed on the surface of the sliding face. The magnetic head generates a negative pressure by virtue of the grooves formed in the sliding face in the rotation direction of the drum, thereby improving contact between the magnetic head and the magnetic tape.

At least one of the pair of magnetic core halves has a winding window therein. The metal magnetic thin film is provided in such a manner as to prevent the oxide magnetic base from cracking due to an internal stress generated in the metal magnetic thin film.

    Abstract: In a metal-in-gap magnetic head, a pair of magnetic core halves made of ferrite are arranged to oppose to each other, and metallic magnetic films are applied to each of opposing surfaces of the pair of magnetic core halves. A hard glass layer and a chromium layer are applied to a gap plane of the magnetic head as a gap layer. A gap is formed so as to abut on the chromium layers between a pair of the gap layers. The hard glass layer includes borosilicate as a main component and it has Vickers hardness of the same as that of said metallic magnetic films or less and softening temperature of 550.degree. C. or higher. Thus, a magnetic head does not generate a spacing loss when a tape slides thereon.

    Abstract: A head core includes a pair of core parts made of a magnetic metallic material and bonded together by (1) a gap material which is a low-melting-point crystallized glass which serves as the bonding material and (2) non-magnetic material layers provided between the glass and the gap surfaces of the core parts. The non-magnetic material layers effectively prevent reaction between the low-melting-point crystallized glass and the metallic magnetic material of the core during the bonding heat treatment. The strength of the magnetic gap, as well as dimensional precision of the same, is enhanced as compared with the conventional arrangement of the same gap size in which bonding is accomplished by a low-melting-point non-crystallizable glass, even when the bonding is executed at the same temperature. The invention remarkably improves magnetic head production yields and reliability.

    Abstract: There is disclosed herein a magnetic head comprising a ring-like magnetic core composed of first and second magnetic core halves made of a ferrite and held in abutment against each other so as to form a magnetic gap therebetween and an elongated tape-contact surface extending across the magnetic gap. The magnetic core has in the tape-contact surface a channel formed to as to extend in the direction across the magnetic gap and the channel is filled with a magnetic metal material having a high-saturation magnetization. Preferably, the channel has a substantially V-shaped cross section. The magnetic gap exposed on the tape-contact surface is surrounded by the magnetic metal material and non-magnetic glass members provided at both ends of the magnetic gap. The non-magnetic glass members are provided so that the track width is constant from the tape-contact surface to an upper end of a winding hole of the ring-like magnetic core.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a magnetic head includes fabricating a magnetic block having a lamination of magnetic alloy films and nonmagnetic substrates, and cutting the magnetic block into two bars to obtain magnetic core halves. A nonmagnetic film is formed on a surface of each of the core halves. The core halves are joined by adjoining the surfaces having the nonmagnetic film and then heating the thus adjoined core halves. Additionally, a magnetic field is applied rotating in a plane parallel to a plane of the magnetic alloy films. The joined core halves is then cut into a specified width, and a wire-winding window is machined therein.

    Abstract: A magnetic head includes magnetic cores formed by sputter layers of an amorphous magnetic alloy formed on a non-magnetic substrate (1). A non-magnetic ceramic layer is provided on one amorphous magnetic alloy layer, and a non-magnetic substrate is bonded thereon by a bonding glass layer. The one amorphous magnetic alloy sputter layer is isolated from the bonding glass layer by the non-magnetic ceramic layer to prevent the quality of the bonding glass layer from deteriorating thus a stronger bonding force is maintained. The bonding of the amorphous ceramic layer with respect to the one amorphous magnetic alloy layer is strong, thus providing a magnetic head having high reliability.
