  • Patent number: 8317439
Abstract: A cutting tool of the sort used for deep hole drilling has a cutting head mounted on a shank. The cutting head is formed asymmetrically with respect to a longitudinal axis and has at least one cutting edge. The cutting head has guiding segments that extend from a forward end to a rear end of the cutting head. Each of the guiding segments has a guiding pad in the periphery thereof. A forward end of the guiding pad lies on a cylindrical envelope defined by the cutting diameter of the cutting tool. A rear engagement portion of the cutting head is engaged with a forward engagement portion of the shank. The cutting head is made from sintered carbide powders and the guiding pads are integrally formed with the cutting head.

  • Publication number: 20100303569
Abstract: A rotating tool includes a tool body, an outer cartridge, an inner cartridge and one or more setting plates. The tool body includes a pocket for the inner cartridge and a pocket for the outer cartridge. The outer cartridge has at least one cutting insert and a bolt through-hole extending toward a peripheral portion of the tool body. The outer cartridge is mounted on the pocket for the outer cartridge by means of a bolt. The setting plate is positioned to contact both the outer cartridge and the pocket for the outer cartridge. Screw holes for mounting the setting plate are formed on a side face of the outer cartridge adjacent to a rotating axis and through-holes are formed on the setting plate. This is so that the setting plate can be mounted on the side face of the outer cartridge by setting screws.

  • Patent number: 7607869
Abstract: As seen in a side view of a cutting insert, the cutting insert is provided with cutting edges that slope in opposite directions. A rake surface extends at the upper surface inwardly from the cutting edges. An inward portion of the rake surface forms a main chip former. A first end of the rake surface adjacent a raised cutting corner and distal a lower cutting corner is provided with a secondary chip former that extends from adjacent the raised cutting corner to the main chip former.
