Patent number: 7883497Abstract: An absorbent article includes an absorbent structure. The edge portions in the absorbent structure's middle portion have a first mean pore size, and the central portion in the middle portion of the absorbent structure has a second mean pore size, the first mean pore size being greater than the second mean pore size. The absorbent article can be folded along the longitudinal centre axis so that a part of the article on one side of the longitudinal centre line and a corresponding part of the article on the other side of the longitudinal centre line are brought together to lie against one another at a plane of the longitudinal centre line on the upper surface of the article. The edge portions which have the greater, first mean pore size thereby form an area of the absorbent article that is first wetted during use.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2004Date of Patent: February 8, 2011Assignee: SCA Hygiene Products ABInventors: Mats Birring, Kent Vartiainen, Eje Österdahl, Göran Forsbring, Berith Porsö, Charlotta Hansson

Patent number: 6835192Abstract: An absorbent article such as a diaper or an incontinence protector, comprising at least one liquid storage region (2, 3) with high absorption capacity and at least one wicking layer (4) which overlaps at least a substantial part of the liquid storage region and which has greater liquid dispersion ability than the storage region. The wicking layer (4) is intended to disperse liquid collected locally in the article over the liquid storage region (2, 3). The aim of the invention is to improve liquid dispersion in absorbent articles. The invention is characterized in that liquid-impermeable portions (5, 6) are arranged at separate places in the article along sections of overlapping parts of the wicking layer (4) and the liquid storage region (2, 3) in order to prevent the transfer of liquid over said parts from the wicking layer to the storage region.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2002Date of Patent: December 28, 2004Assignee: SCA Hygiene Products ABInventors: Ted Guidotti, Roy Hansson, Urban Widlund, Gunnar Edwardson, Peter Blomström, Eje Österdahl

Patent number: 5855571Abstract: An absorbent structure in an absorbent article, such as a diaper, incontinence guard, sanitary napkin and the like, wherein the structure includes hydrophilic fibres and particles of a superabsorbent material and also has a front and a back part (4, 5) and a crotch part (6) located therebetween, said crotch part exhibiting a wetting region (16) within which the major part of discharged fluid is directed and wherein the absorbent structure in the wetting region includes superabsorbent particles that are encased in a material that will only dissolve slowly in and/or be penetrated slowly by the fluid to be absorbed so that the superabsorbent material will not begin to absorb fluid and swell to any appreciable extent until the encapsulating material has dissolved and/or been penetrated by the fluid and that conventional superabsorbent material (15) is localized generally in those parts of the structure that are located outside said wetting region.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1995Date of Patent: January 5, 1999Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventors: Christina Steger, Edward Guidotti, Eje Osterdahl, Urban Widlund

Patent number: 5817085Abstract: A method for the manufacturing of an absorbent structure in an absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, tampon, panty protector, wound or sore dressing and like articles is produced by using absorbent material in roll form directly in the product without first defibrating the material and then forming a mat. The material possesses good dispersion properties and swelling properties, which are meaningful to the function of the product. A high surface dryness is obtained, among other things. In addition to cellulose fibers, the absorbent structure may also include superabsorbent material and/or binding fibers, among other ingredients. The pulp mat is very thin, therewith obviating the need to compress the mat further in the product. In the case of certain product applications, the material is softened mechanically prior to its use as an absorbent material.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1995Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: SCA Molnlycke ABInventors: Urban Widlund, Eje Osterdahl, Roy Hansson, Milan Kolar
