Publication number: 20090164605Abstract: A method and system for dynamically managing content provided to a mobile device. In one embodiment, the present invention begins by retrieving information from a network. In one embodiment the information is web-based content, and the network is the Internet. The present method and system then dynamically assesses the information which was retrieved from the network. In particular, in one embodiment, the present invention assesses the information by determining the application to which the information corresponds. Next, the present embodiment selectively filters the information such that desired information is compiled. After the selective filtering process, the present embodiment forwards the desired information to the mobile device. In so doing, the present embodiment provides an approach which dynamically manages the content of information so as to efficiently, responsively, and inexpensively provide a mobile device user with desired information.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2008Publication date: June 25, 2009Applicant: PALM, INC.Inventors: Elaine Lusher, Wenjun Luo, Scott Lincke

Patent number: 7412236Abstract: A method and system supporting location based services for a mobile electronic device that supports multiple wireless communication technologies. The mobile device contains a resource proxy for dynamically storing a set of resources that are available to the electronic device and that are location specific, e.g., accessible via a point that is near the electronic device. The resource proxy contains a resource table recording the available resources and a gateway table indicating a pathway for reaching the data. The resource proxy definitions are technology independent with respect to the communication mechanisms required to obtain the data. Resources are added to the resource proxy via a resource discovery mechanism automatically performed by the mobile device. Multiple network gateways can be defined and each is responsible for requesting and retrieving information for the resource proxy.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2004Date of Patent: August 12, 2008Assignee: PalmSource, Inc.Inventors: David Blight, Elaine Lusher, Stuart Eichert, Cathy Summers

Patent number: 7120819Abstract: Method and system of fault diagnosis in a data network. Specifically, one embodiment of the present invention discloses a method for automating the process of determining faults in a data network. A network management station (NMS) receives filtered fault data from the various subnetworks of computer systems that comprise the data network. Each of the subnetworks have an associated performance manager that monitors, collects and filters fault data from the subnetwork. Each of the performance managers send their respective filtered fault data to the NMS. The NMS further analyses the filtered fault data to identify the fault and locate a source of the fault within the topology of the data network. The NMS can further query the network for additional fault data as necessary. The NMS displays the fault, cause, and location of the cause to a network engineer for correction.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2001Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Denise Gürer, Elaine Lusher

Patent number: 6393474Abstract: A system for providing policy management in a network that includes nodes operating in multiple protocol layers and having enforcement functions. Multiple network devices, such as routers, remote access equipment, switches, repeaters and network cards, and end system processes having security functions are configured to contribute to implementation of policy enforcement in the network. By distributing policy enforcement functionality to a variety of network devices and end systems, a pervasive policy management system is implemented. The policy management system includes a policy implementation component that accepts policy, i.e. instructions or rules, that define how the network device should behave when confronted with a particular situation.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1998Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Stuart Eichert, Danny M.
