    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for testing substances and mixtures of substances for toxic characteristics, to the use of said method and to corresponding test kits. The method is essentially based on the determination of a fatty acid binding protein from the liver, L-FABP. The use of said method provides an early indication of carcinogenic and tumour-promoting characteristics of the tested substance or mixture of substances.
