Abstract: A technique for generating from a point set geometric data that continuously describe a course of a geographic object used in the context of generating data for a navigation device or driver assisted system is disclosed. The technique includes determining, from sub-sets of two or more road points, a sequence of primary base elements; determining an interconnecting secondary base element for adjacent primary base elements, that continuously connects to and at a connection point has the same gradient as each of the interconnected primary base elements; determining an interconnecting transition curve for adjacent primary and secondary base elements, that continuously connects to and at a connection point has the same gradient and the same curvature as each of the interconnected primary and secondary base elements; and determining geometric data that continuously describe a course of the geographic object from primary base elements, secondary base elements and transition curves.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a technique for searching points of interest, or POIs, along a calculated route to be travelled. A method implementation thereof comprises the steps of providing an initial search corridor of predetermined size, wherein the corridor is indicative of a geographic area covering at least portions of the route to be travelled, performing a POI search within the provided search corridor, and adjusting the corridor size for a subsequent POI search based on a number of POI hits found during the POI search in the currently provided search corridor.

Abstract: A technique for structuring a navigation data base in order to support incremental data updates is provided. A method implementation of the technique includes the steps of providing at least two data levels, wherein a first data level is associated with route links representing road segments of regional distance roads, partitioning the first data level into local tiles, wherein each local tile is associated with route links representing road segments of regional distance roads for a specific local geographic area, and interlinking those route links of neighboring local tiles that represent road segment portions of a regional distance road extending over neighboring local tiles.

Abstract: A technique of structuring a navigation database is provided, wherein the navigation database includes at least route link data for a predetermined geographic area. A method implementation of the technique includes organizing route link data associated with the predetermined geographic area into at least one routing cluster; providing the at least one routing cluster with a cluster identifier; and storing the at least one routing cluster together with the cluster identifier in the navigation database.
