Said device is provided with a processing device, with a measuring device for measuring at least one milk variable during a milking run of a dairy animal and for issuing a signal indicative of the measured value to the processing device. The processing device is provided with a memory suitable for containing a reference value for the milk variable, and with a comparing device for comparing the measured value of the milk variable with the reference value and for issuing a comparison signal. The device separates milk in dependence on the comparison signal. The measuring device is suitable for measuring during the entire course of the milking run the value of the milk variable for obtaining a momentary measurement pattern of the milk variable.

Abstract: A device for detecting the condition of heat of an animal, in particular a pig, comprising a reaction-detecting means for detecting a heat-related reaction, such as a standing-reflex. There is disposed at least one stimulation means for stimulating the animal to give the heat-related reaction. The demonstrated reaction is compared with a reaction which is characteristic of a particular condition of heat.

The device is provided with a milk line, with a processing device, with an aerometer for determining the presence of air, constituting a first milk variable, in a portion of the milk flowing through the milk line during a milking run of a dairy animal and for issuing an air presence signal to the processing device. A measuring device measures a value of at least one further milk variable of the mentioned portion of the milk and is suitable for generating a measurement signal indicative of the measured value of the further milk variable and for issuing the measurement signal to the processing device. The device is provided with a comparing device for comparing the air presence signal with a threshold and for issuing a comparison signal, the measurement signal from the measuring device being issued to the processing device in dependence on the comparison signal.

The method comprises the step of determining the period between two successive milking runs of the dairy animal, the step of measuring a value of a variable in relation to the dairy animal, the step of issuing a measurement signal indicative of the measured value, and the step of admitting a dairy animal to the milking box in dependence on an admission criterion. The method comprises the step of repeatedly varying the admission criterion in such a manner that periods with different values are obtained.

This results in a better utilisation of the capacity of the device. A device for automatically milking animals which are allowed to walk around in an area intended therefor and are able to visit the device voluntarily is provided with a milking robot and is suitable for deciding on the basis of an admission criterion with at least one requirement whether an animal is allowed to visit the milking robot, and/or is suitable for deciding on the basis of a milking criterion with at least one requirement whether or not an animal visiting the milking robot will be milked.
