Abstract: The invention provides methods for modulating plant height and organ shape, comprising the step of expressing a transgene in a plant, wherein the transgene encodes an ERECTA-like protein lacking an active kinase domain and wherein expression of the transgene modulates plant height or organ shape. The invention also provides methods for for enhancing the yield of a crop plant, transgenic plants comprising a gene encoding an ERECTA-like protein, vectors encoding ERECTA-like proteins and host cells and/or cell cultures comprising these vectors, and isolated nucleic acid sequences.
