Abstract: A system and a method for handling an incoming call, comprising the steps of determining that the incoming call is an unwanted call, locating at least one prior call wherein characteristics of a calling party in the at least one prior call match that of the unwanted call, determining an audio response which kept the calling party in the prior call longest, and playing, at least in part, the audio response which kept the calling party in the prior call longest in the unwanted call.

Abstract: In embodiments of the disclosed technology, devices and methods for redirecting a telephone call from a public-switched telephone to a packet-switched data network. The phone call is initially received via the public-switched telephone network having a dialed number associated with a hand-held wireless device of a called party. Upon initialization of the phone call, a route is determined from the telecommunications switch to the hand-held wireless device of the called party via a packet-switched network. The bandwidth of the packet-switched network is then detected to determine the ability of the network to handle the call. If the packet-switched network is determined to be capable of handling the call, the call is forwarded over the packet-switched data, thereby reducing or eliminating charges for wireless minutes.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention comprise a device, system, and method of receiving a phone call to a non-Inward WATS phone number, such as a typical non-toll free phone number, forwarding the phone call to a carrier capable of reading ANI information associated with the call, and providing ANI information to the called party. The providing of ANI information may be by way of forwarding to a toll-free number of a provider and populating caller ID data with ANI information before forwarding to the called party, or by way of forwarding the call to a provider with the ANI information, whereby the provider forwards the call and information gleaned from the ANI information to the called party.

Abstract: The disclosed technology described herein provides devices and methods for disconnecting only the duplicate legs of a call which may have been twice or more received on a telecommunications switch for the same phone call. In embodiments of the disclosed technology, the duplicate legs indicate a twice (or more) rejected call from a called party indicating that the call should not be returned to the called party, where the called party is defined as the intended recipient of the phone call. A remaining leg or legs are kept open upon duplicate leg detection on a switch, and the call is then handled with a premium feature, such as forwarding to voicemail.

Abstract: A device of embodiments of the disclosed technology comprises an interface adapted for engagement with an on-board diagnostic port of a vehicle, a global navigation satellite system receiver, a data storage device for storing received global navigation system data from the global navigation satellite system receiver, and a wireless network adapter. The network adapter is capable of sending, receiving, and interpreting data signals transmitted wirelessly to a network, such as an at home network and/or 802.11 wireless network. Such a wireless network adapter may be configured to seek out available wireless networks and send data stored in the data storage device to a remote server upon connection to the wireless network. Such networks may be either unsecured networks and/or networks preprogrammed into the device, such as via configuration before placement into the vehicle.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of a power adapter, adapted for electrical engagement with a power outlet found in a cabin of a vehicle and with a device to be powered. The adapter further comprises a satellite receiver to receive data used to determine position (e.g. GPS) and logs such data. Upon obtaining network connectivity through either a network adapter in the device or a network connection of the device to be powered, such logged data is uploaded to a remote location. Video, audio, or other data may also be logged and uploaded.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosed technology, by way of a bidirectional transceiver, allow a user of a handheld device with phone and/or data service to place a bid in an auction for an item, whereby the user is charged for the bid, and both a phone service provider and auction provider receive at least a part of the proceeds. In this manner, unregistered (previously unknown to the auction provider) bids may be placed, with security on the part of the auction provider that the bid will be honored.

When the destination telephone answers, the user-defined telephone number is displayed.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method for masking the identity of a user of a calling telephone.
