  • Publication number: 20160334691
Abstract: An Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO) that includes optical elements located and oriented to form a non-planer, image-rotating ring cavity. To provide a high quality well shaped output beam, the OPO comprises a plurality of reflecting surfaces, designed to rotate the resonating beam by 90 degrees for each round trip in the cavity. Preferred embodiments include a first non-linear crystals and a similar second non-linear crystal mounted side-by-side on a single rotating stage. To minimize the adverse effects of walk-off, a reflecting unit is positioned to cause the output of the first crystal to be reflected into the second crystal. The two crystals are aligned so as to cause walk-off produced in the first of the two crystals to be cancelled by opposite walk-off produced in the second crystal.

  • Patent number: 8687055
Abstract: A spectral imaging system for collecting spectral information of a two dimensional heterogeneous objects while in motion relative to the imaging system without the use of a spectrograph, filters or any dispersive optics. The system includes a pulsed light source tunable in wavelength for producing short pulses of wavelength tuned light at a plurality of selected narrow band wavelengths within a spectral range and one or more optical components for conveying or directing the short pulses of light to a two dimensional region that is substantially stationary with respect to the imaging system and through which the two dimensional target is moving. The system also includes a many pixel camera synchronized with the tunable pulsed light source.

  • Patent number: 7233392
Abstract: A spectral imaging device with a narrow band spectrally tunable light source. The light source includes an optical parametric oscillator that can be tuned across a wide range of wavelengths while illuminating a target. In a preferred embodiment, a Q-switched YAG laser pumps the OPO. Two-dimensional images of the target may be detected at various wavelengths by a imaging sensor with a many pixel focal plane array to generate data arrays known as hyper-spectral image cubes. These images detecting variations is optical parameters including transmission, reflectivity, and fluorescence of the target can be obtained in various spectral ranges from ultraviolet to infrared for a variety of applications in metrology, agriculture, life sciences, and in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Patent number: 6295160
Abstract: An optical parametric oscillator for converting the wavelength of a laser pump beam into a signal wavelength and an idler wavelength. A co-linear double resonance cavity is created with a right angle prism serving as a maximum reflector for both the pump beam as well as the signal and idler beams. A non-linear crystal is positioned within said resonance cavity and is pivoted to tune the oscillator. A pump beam deflector is positioned to deflect the pump beam into the resonance cavity. The deflector preferably is a mirror with a multi-layer coating configured to provide maximum reflection at the wavelength of the pump beam and maximum transmittal of the signal and idler beams over their ranges. The pump beam passes twice through said non-linear crystal and is efficiently converted into said signal and idler beams in said non-linear crystal. The deflector can be placed inside or outside the cavity. In a preferred embodiment the output coupler is an uncoated window.

  • Patent number: 5276548
Abstract: An Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO) includes optical elements located and oriented so a pump beam is generating an idler beam and a signal beam while all of these beams propagate in common directions at any given time as they move through the OPO. In one form of the invention, the optical elements include a dichroic mirror, a non-linear crystal, and right angle prisms. The beams are reflected by one of the right angle prisms back through the non-linear crystal so that walkoff is cancelled.
