  • Patent number: 6656047
Abstract: An apparatus and a method facilitate single user and tournament play of wagering games on a computer-controlled machine. A player provides control input in order to control the game. The machine simulates the rolling of dice to obtain scoring combinations, and the player makes strategic gaming decisions concerning the holding, releasing and re-rolling of the dice, and the assignment of the resulting dice combinations to scoring categories. A game progresses as a player attempts to fill a plurality of scoring categories in order to achieve a high total score. A player wagers on each simulated roll of the dice, and is paid for winning assignments of combinations to categories. The computer-controlled slot machines are generally linked to a wide area network, facilitating tournament play among multiple players and progressive jackpots. Computer-controlled slot machines include machine-readable media reading and writing devices, allowing players to save and restore games in progress.

  • Patent number: 5823875
Abstract: A method provides a bonus component to a table game involving one or more players. The method involves each player wishing to participate in bonus play first indicating participation in the table game, then wagering a game token on one or more of a number of predetermined card compositions. The game commences and each player is dealt a hand of game playing cards. If any players' hand of game playing cards includes a one of the number of predetermined card compositions, corresponding to a wagered bonus, the player making the wager wins the wager. A game table, having a dealer station and a number of player stations, is structured to provide acceptance of wagers. The game table includes, at each player station, apparatus forming a wager-receiving recess for accepting a wager--typically in the form of a token. A sliding cover is movable between a first position that exposes the recess, and a second position that inhibits further wagering by blocking the recess.

  • Patent number: 5687968
Abstract: A method of wagering on an competitive event pitting at least two competitors against one another includes providing initial odds as an indication of one of the two participants winning the event, and establishing a betting time period preceding the event that comprises a number of successive wagering intervals, during each of which wagers on an outcome of the event are taken. For each of the successive wagering intervals the initial odds are recalculated based upon all wagers taken up to the point of the recalculation. Each wager placed is recorded by a wager ticket the carries indicia of the one of the successive wagering intervals during which the wager was taken so that payout on the wager, in the event a correct decision on the outcome of the event was made, as indicated by the wager ticket, will be based upon the odds recalculated during the one of the successive wagering time periods during which the wager was taken.

  • Patent number: 5669817
Abstract: A casino game table for card games such as poker includes a plurality of displays that operate to display dealt card representations in lieu of actual dealt cards. The game table includes a dealer position and a number of player positions. Each player position has a video display upon which is displayed, during game play, representations of game cards viewable substantially only by the associated player. The dealer position has a video display viewable by players and the dealer, upon which are displayed representations of cards dealt the dealer during game play, and cards of the dealer and participating players at the conclusion of game play. The dealer position includes game controls for initiating and maintaining game play.

  • Patent number: 5501839
Abstract: A cover for a laboratory beaker is formed from a top structure having a depending, annular skirt that forms, with the frustoconically shaped top structure, a peripheral shoulder. The skirt is dimensioned to be received by the opening of beaker to hold the cover in place, and to close any poring spout that may be formed in the periphery of the beaker. The shoulder is dimensioned to rest on the periphery of the beaker. Formed in top structure is an aperture that allows ingress to the beaker when the cover is in place. A stopper is provided to be removably received by the aperture to close the interior of the beaker. The a bottom portion of the stopper is structured to depend from the top structure, toward the volume of the beaker covered by the cover to provide a formation for reflux activity.

  • Patent number: 5037523
Abstract: An electrophoresis instrument includes a capillary tube mounted in an air cooled cartridge. The cartridge also supports a spherical lens which is part of the optical detection apparatus. The cartridge rests in a manifold which includes the sample and buffer reservoirs. The temperature of the capillary tube is controlled by measuring the electrical resistance of the capillary tube during the electrophoresis process and then cooling or heating the cartridge by circulating temperature controlled air over the tube. The optical path associated with the instrument is a fiber optic bundle bifurcated close to dual detectors into a reference arm and a sample arm so as to provide similar reference and sample optical paths. The instrument may be used for temperature control for gradient electrophoresis and also, a neutral marker for determining electro-osmotic flow may be detected.
