  • Patent number: 7505722
Abstract: This is a pre-heater system especially useful in an electrostatic marking apparatus. It is used to heat the toner and paper (media) prior to the paper entering the conventional fuser station. Using this pre-heater increases fusing productivity (ppm), widens media latitude and/or extends fuser member life for a given fuser system. It also dramatically improves uniform heat transfer and paper handling problems encountered in prior art preheat fusing assemblies. The preheater is used together with the conventional fuser stations used today in electrostatic marking systems.

  • Publication number: 20090003896
Abstract: An enhanced sheet stripping method and apparatus for stripping toner image carrying copy sheets from a surface of a moving heated fusing member forming a fusing nip. The apparatus includes (a) a moving assembly for moving a cut sheet towards the fusing nip; (b) a sheet curling device positioned upstream of the fusing nip relative to movement of the cut sheet for inducing a desired pre-curl in the cut sheet before the cut sheet enters the fusing nip; and (c) a sheet stripping device positioned downstream of the fusing nip for stripping the cut sheet from contact with the surface of the moving heated fusing member as the cut sheet exits the fusing nip. The method includes inducing a desired curl in the cut sheet before the cut sheet enters the fusing nip and enhanced stripping the cut sheet from contact with the surface of the fuser roll as the cut sheet exits the fusing nip.

  • Publication number: 20080018714
Abstract: The present application is directed to piezoelectric actuator devices. One embodiment of a piezoelectric actuator comprises a chamber diaphragm having a major surface. A piezoelectric transducer is positioned on the major surface of the chamber diaphragm. The piezoelectric transducer has a major surface having a first dimension which is smaller than a corresponding second dimension of the major surface of the chamber diaphragm, so that the piezoelectric transducer underlaps the chamber diaphragm. The underlap ratio of the first dimension to the second dimension ranges from about 0.70 to about 0.99.

  • Publication number: 20070146450
Abstract: An apparatus is used with an ink jet print head in an ink jet printer. The apparatus includes a print head protector that surrounds a print head. A substantially continuous slot is provided along a perimeter of the bracket and a filter is located in the substantially continuous slot. An inlet in fluid communication with the substantially continuous slot enables a positive pressure air supply to be coupled to the inlet. The air entering the inlet flows through the filter in the slot and the filtered air flows outwardly away from the print head.

  • Publication number: 20040245711
Abstract: The transporting of flimsy print media sheets having curled sheet edges being fed from a fuser or other input onto a vacuum sheet transport belt system is provided with improved acquisition by simultaneously blowing the upper surface of the sheet's curled lead edge area down towards the vacuum belt transport with a positive pressure airflow while the vacuum sheet transport is attracting the sheet with its an underlying vacuum manifold airflow. Both the vacuum manifold airflow and the positive pressure airflow may be respectively provided solely by the air intake and the air exhaust from a single blower. The positive pressure airflow may be provided from a manifold extending transversely over at least the upstream end of the vacuum belt transport, spaced therefrom, and feeding air to one or more air jets.

  • Patent number: 6456309
Abstract: Color electrophotographic printers having latent image positions synchronized with start-of-scan signals. A laser source projects a laser beam onto a multifaceted rotating polygon that sweeps that beam in a scan line across a moving photoreceptor. A start-of-scan detector produces start-of-scan signals when the laser beam is in position to write a scan line. A belt sensor produces belt signals when indicia on the photoreceptor passes a reference position. A controller receives the belt signals and the start-of-scan and then adjusts the photoreceptors rotational velocity such that the belt signals are an integral multiple of the start-of-scan signals. To reduce the impact of drive roller eccentricities on belt signal to start-of-scan signal timing, the perimeters of photoreceptor roller elements are sub-multiples of the photoreceptor length.

  • Patent number: 5689767
Abstract: An apparatus for maintaining a uniform temperature along its axis by increasing the heat transfer efficiency. The apparatus uses a sealed chamber containing a substantially pure working fluid in a two phase (liquid and vapor) condition. The vaporization and condensation of the fluid increases the heat transfer efficiency and tends to equalize temperature gradients in a body in contact with the apparatus. The apparatus is utilized in various locations in an electrophotographic printing machine and can be used as a pressure roll for a heat and pressure fuser, a support or drive roll for a photoreceptive member, a support member for a photoreceptor and a heat sink for a developer housing.

  • Patent number: 5212526
Abstract: In an imaging process, a toned image layer on an image receptor is simultaneously transferred and fused to a recording medium. A radiation curable material is incorporated in the toned image layer such that when the toned image layer is irradiated, the radiation curable material is cured. The resulting cured material has greater adhesion to the toner material and the recording medium than to the surface of the image receptor. The apparatus for performing the above process is also disclosed.
