  • Publication number: 20180278468
Abstract: A server rack may include a chassis controller for the server rack and a set of baseboard management controllers (BMCs) corresponding to servers stored in the server rack. Each BMC is communicatively connected to the chassis controller internal to the server rack. Each BMC is also communicatively connected to a network switch located external to the server rack to communicate with the set of BMCs using the network switch. When a first BMC loses communication with the chassis controller internal to the server rack, the first BMC communicates with the chassis controller via a second BMC and the network switch.

  • Patent number: 9940275
Abstract: An information handling system includes an Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) master device and an I2C slave device coupled to the I2C master device via an I2C bus. The I2C slave device is configured with a pre-set I2C address and includes seeding data that is unique to the I2C slave device. The I2C master device receives the seeding data and addresses the I2C slave device at an I2C slave address instead of at the pre-set I2C address, wherein the I2C slave address is based upon the seeding data.

  • Patent number: 8612801
Abstract: A server chassis includes an uninterruptible power supply, and a server including a controller. The uninterruptible power supply is configured to provide a reserve power when a primary power is lost, and to send a power loss signal when the primary power is lost. The controller is configured to receive a desired server uptime, to receive an indication that a power limit for the server is fixed or decreasing over the desired server, to receive the power loss signal from the uninterruptible power supply, to send a power capacity query to the uninterruptible power supply, to receive a reserve power capacity of the uninterruptible power supply in response to the power capacity query, to calculate the power limit for the server based on the reserve power capacity of the uninterruptible power supply and on the desired server uptime, and to enforce the power limit on the server.
