Abstract: A chip breaker arrangement in cutting tool inserts comprising chip breaking grooves that vary in width, depth and/or distance from the cutting edge cyclically, with the variations occurring at either fixed or varying frequencies while the cutting edges are formed in a straight line along the varying chip breaking grooves whereby the same inserts provide effective chip control over a wide range of cutting conditions.
