  • Patent number: 9770601
Abstract: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a remarkable tool for probing the brain. However, it is still unclear why specific regions in the cortex are excitable by TMS while others are not. This invention provides methods and tools for the design of efficient magnetic stimulators. Such stimulators can excite neuronal networks that were not sensitive to stimulation until now. Stimulation can be carried out both in-vitro and in-vivo. Novel systems and techniques of this invention will enable both treatment and diagnostics by stimulating regions of the brain or neuronal assemblies that were previously unaffected by TMS.

  • Publication number: 20170105645
Abstract: A system includes an array of electroencephalography (EEG) electrodes for placement on the head of a subject and a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) device. A controller is configured to operate the array of EEG electrodes to acquire a plurality of EEG signals concurrently with operation of the TMS device to apply a TMS pulse to the head of the subject. The controller is further configured to select an initial set of EEG signals from the EEG signals and to fit an initial decreasing rational function of time to a TMS artifact component of each EEG signal of the initial set. The TMS artifact component of each remaining EEG signal is fit to a linear combination of the initial decreasing rational functions. Each EEG signal is corrected by removing from the EEG signal the function that is fit to the TMS artifact component of the EEG signal.

  • Patent number: 7304313
Abstract: A specimen enclosure assembly (100) for use in an electron microscope and including a rigid specimen enclosure dish (102) having an aperture (122) and defining an enclosed specimen placement volume (125), an electron beam permeable, fluid impermeable, cover (114) sealing the specimen placement volume (125) at the aperture (122) from a volume outside the enclosure and a pressure controller communicating with the enclosed specimen placement volume (125) and being operative to maintain the enclosed specimen placement volume (125) at a pressure, which exceeds a vapor pressure of a liquid sample (123) in the specimen placement volume (125) and is greater than a pressure of a volume outside the enclosure, whereby a pressure differential across the cover (114) does not exceed a threshold level at which rupture of the cover (114) would occur.

  • Publication number: 20050244821
Abstract: A method of detecting binding between first member or members of a binding pair and corresponding second member or members of the binding pair is disclosed. The method comprises interacting a solid support onto which the first member or members of the binding pair being immobilized and arrayed with the corresponding second member or members of the binding pair, the corresponding second member or members of the binding pair being directly or indirectly tagged with a heavy atom; and determining a spatial distribution of the heavy atom over a surface of the solid support, thereby detecting the binding between the first member or members of the binding pair and the corresponding second member or members of the binding pair.
