  • Publication number: 20240118770
Abstract: A touch-screen display device comprises a series of column electrodes and a series of row electrodes, with an electronic display layer arranged behind the series of column electrodes and behind the series of row electrodes. The series of row electrodes crosses the series of column electrodes such that the electrical impedance at each crossing of a row and column electrode is responsive to the proximity of a touch input to that crossing. A row-drive circuit is configured to apply an excitation signal to a selected row electrode and to concurrently apply a compensation signal to one or more other row electrodes, the compensation signal being out of phase with respect to the excitation signal. A column-sense circuit is configured to sense a column signal from the series of column electrodes and to provide a corresponding column output.

  • Publication number: 20230350514
Abstract: An apparatus and method for compensating the effect of a contact by a hand or other body part of a user with a touch screen of a host device while holding an input device on the strength of a capacitively coupled uplink signal provided to the input device (e.g. stylus) by the host device. The compensation is achieved by applying an antiphase signal on a selective contact area (e.g. under a palm area), to increase an overall induced signal collected by the input device from digitizer-to-pen and palm-to-pen paths.

  • Publication number: 20230304864
Abstract: One or more display color characteristics of an electronic device are managed using a light detecting sensor configured to output multiple color channels in a predefined color space. The light detecting sensor in the electronic device senses ambient light and outputs measurements in visible color channels of the predefined color space to characterize the sensed ambient light. A ratio of one or more measurements of one of the visible color channels to one or more measurements of another of the visible color channels is determined. At least one light source generating at least a portion of the sensed ambient light is classified based at least in part on the determined ratio, wherein the determined ratio indicates a color temperature component of the sensed ambient light. The one or more display color characteristics of the electronic device are adjusted based at least in part on the classifying operation.

  • Patent number: 10678348
Abstract: A method for touch detection on an ungrounded pen enabled device includes sampling output in a frequency range of a signal emitted from a stylus over a stylus sampling window, detecting touch input from a finger or hand based on detecting a gain between a touch threshold and a stylus threshold, wherein the touch threshold is below the stylus threshold over at least two consecutive columns and two consecutive rows of the sensor and reporting coordinates of the touch input based on detecting the touch input. Stylus input is detected based on detecting a gain above a stylus threshold in at least one column and one row of the sensor and coordinates of the stylus are reported based on stylus input being detected. Sampling is performed simultaneously from both columns and rows of a grid based capacitive sensor.

  • Patent number: 10678343
Abstract: A keyboard has a keypad layer of resiliently depressible keypads. The keyboard has a skin of dielectric material, covering a base of the keyboard. The skin contacts a capacitive touchscreen in use, and an actuating layer is on a face of the skin of dielectric material away from the base. The actuating layer comprises a plurality of conductive regions, one per keypad. A grounding layer is between the actuating layer and the keypad layer and spaced from the actuating layer during a rest state of the keyboard. Upon depression of a keypad, the keypad presses a region of the grounding layer under the keypad towards a region of the actuating layer such that the region of the actuating layer becomes grounded and causes a change in capacitance detectable by the capacitive touchscreen.

  • Patent number: 10534449
Abstract: The structure and devices described herein provide an improved digital eraser for a stylus. A stylus may have an eraser end that transmits an erase signal from an eraser antenna. A cover houses the eraser antenna and can be configured with varying geometry to selectively position the eraser antenna closer to, or further away from, a digitizer screen of a computing device when the cover is in contact with the digitizer screen. The computing device can detect the signal strength of the erase signal and/or the contact area between the cover and the digitizer screen and vary one or more of the width, area, or opacity of the erase function. The computing device can further, based upon the strength of the signal and/or the contact area between the cover and the digitizer screen, determine the tilt and/or the rotation of the stylus.
