Abstract: A device for supplying fodder to animals such as cows which has a plurality of hoppers containing fodder wherein each hopper may have a different type of fodder. A plurality of feeding troughs are provided which are accessible to animals to feed therefrom. Each hopper has a conveyor for conveying fodder from that hopper to a control component that has a receptacle which receives fodder from selected hoppers. Under control of the control component selected conveyors in the hoppers convey predetermined amounts of fodder therefrom to the receptacle. The receptacle has a bottom which can be opened and from which fodder falls through a pipe or chute to a selected trough. The device is provided with a container which may be one of the hoppers edible separating material which may be supplied to the receptacle to form a layer on top of which fodder is received and is wrapped, at least in part, by the edible separating material as it falls through the bottom of the receptacle into the underlying pipe or chute.

The method comprises a control step for controlling the milking process and/or the physical condition of the animal by means of a temperature measurement. The control step comprises the measurement of the temperature over at least the length of a part of the teat and/or over a length of the udder quarter belonging to the teat, in particular of the whole teat and/or the whole quarter.

Abstract: A device for supplying feed to animals, which device is provided with a hopper for the feed, a feeding parlor, and conveying means for conveying feed from the hopper to the feeding parlor, said device being adapted to be positioned relative to a bottom on which an animal can stand. The conveying means comprise a first conveyor for conveying feed upwards from a hopper. The first conveyor has a supply end. The feeding parlor may be constituted by a feeding trough having a shape that widens from the entrance opening. Additionally or alternatively the conveying means are arranged such that the supply end is movable from and towards each of the feeding parlors. Additionally or alternatively the distance between a feeding trough and a bottom portion is adjustable. The conveying means comprise a first conveyor for conveying an amount of fodder from the hopper to the receptacle and a second conveyor for conveying the amount of fodder from the receptacle to the feeding trough. The device is provided with a container for containing edible separating material. Supply means supply the edible separating material to the receptacle. There is provided a control means for first performing the supply of the edible separating material to the receptacle and then performing the conveyance of fodder from the hopper to the receptacle. The edible separating material is constituted by a material that at least substantially does not adhere to components of the device.
