A coalescing medium formed as a hollow body is arranged in a flow path of the fuel downstream of the filter medium for separating water from the fuel. The coalescing medium surrounds the filter medium or is arranged in the interior. The coalescing medium has at least one nonwoven layer that coalesces water and has a main orientation of fibers transverse to a main flow path of separated water downstream of the coalescing medium.
