    Abstract: Methods of treating animals to prevent or treat the adverse effects of type I or I.sub.g E mediated hypersensitivity in the animal consist of administering to the animal a safe and effective amount of a conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) or a substance which is converted in the animal into CLA. Methods of increasing the white blood cell count in a mammal and preserving white blood cells with CLA also are disclosed.
