    Abstract: The invention relates to methods of increasing photosynthetic capacity in plants by modulating the cryptochrome 1 (CRY1)-directed signalling pathway. In certain embodiments, the invention relates to removing constraints on maximal photosynthetic capacity by reducing or abolishing SPA gene expression and/or activity. The invention further relates to plants having increased photosynthetic capacity, identifying plants with increased photosynthetic capacity and methods of producing food or feed products.
