  • Patent number: 9677600
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a piston, a crankshaft having a journal, and a connecting rod. The connecting rod includes a first end coupled to the piston and a second end coupled to the journal of the crankshaft. The second end of the connecting rod includes a bearing surface configured to interface with the journal, and further includes an open portion extending through the second end from the bearing surface to the exterior of the second end.

Date of Patent: June 13, 2017
    Assignee: Briggs & Stratton Corporation
Inventors: John W. Sigrist, Jeffrey H. Whitmore, Elliot J. Matel
  • Publication number: 20140053794
Abstract: A centrifugal fan for use with an engine includes a hub defining a rotational axis, a plurality of blades arranged about the rotational axis, and a screen coupled to the hub and blades for co-rotation therewith. The hub, the blades, and the screen are integrally formed as a single piece.

  • Patent number: 6325036
Abstract: A starting and stopping device for an internal combustion engine includes an energy storing device including at least one elastic member. The elastic member is loaded in response to rotation of a main shaft, and the main shaft rotates in an unloading direction in response to unloading of the elastic member. A locking mechanism selectively prevents the elastic member from unloading from a loaded state by preventing the shaft from rotating in the unloading direction. A clutch mechanism is operatively disposed between the main shaft and the locking mechanism to permit rotation of the shaft in the unloading direction when a preselected torsional threshold between the shaft and the locking mechanism is reached.
