Patent number: 11947038Abstract: A LIDAR system includes a transmitter unit constructed and arranged to generate light and a photodetector structure for detecting received, reflected light. An actively tunable narrow band optical filter structure is located upstream of the photodetector structure to filter out wavelengths of light associated with sunlight prior to being received by the photodetector structure. The filter structure is constructed and arranged to change optical filtering thereof so as to change wavelengths of light permitted to pass there-through. A photodiode detects light passing through the filter structure. A control unit is associated with the photodiode and the filter structure and is constructed and arranged such that based on the light detected by the photodiode, the control unit can cause the filter structure to change the optical filtering thereof by heating or rotating the filter structure so as to compensate for drifting or broadening of a wavelength of the transmitter unit.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2018Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.Inventors: Elliot Smith, Heiko Leppin

Patent number: 11834022Abstract: A parking brake system is disclosed and includes one or more pressure transducers that monitor the fluid pressure of the parking brake system and a brake selection device configured to indicate the parking brake system is either in an engaged state or a disengaged state. The parking brake system includes one or more processors and a memory coupled to the one or more processors. The memory stores data comprising a database and program code that, when executed by the one or more processors, causes the parking brake system to determine the fluid pressure of the parking brake system is less than a threshold pressure. In response to determining the fluid pressure of the parking brake system is less than the threshold pressure, the parking brake system instructs the brake selection device to indicate the parking brake system is in the disengaged state.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2019Date of Patent: December 5, 2023Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Steven Elliot Smith, David T. Patent number: 11505311Abstract: A brake system for a vehicle is disclosed and includes an energy storage device configured to store and discharge energy, a plurality of wheels having an observer wheel, one or more processors operatively coupled to the energy storage device, and a memory coupled to the one or more processors. The memory stores data comprising a database and program code that, when executed by the one or more processors, causes the brake system to determine the brake system is operating in a backup mode of operation. In response to determining the brake system is operating in the backup mode of operation, the brake system is caused to apply a first brake pressure command to the observer wheel. In response to determining the observer wheel is starting the skid condition, the brake system is caused to determine a second brake pressure command based on a target slip value.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2019Date of Patent: November 22, 2022Assignee: THE BOEING COMPANYInventors: Nima Forghani, David T. Patent number: 11273909Abstract: A brake system for a vehicle is disclosed and includes an energy storage device configured to store and discharge energy, a plurality of wheels, one or more processors operatively coupled to the energy storage device, and a memory coupled to the one or more processors. The memory stores data comprising a database and program code that, when executed by the one or more processors, causes the brake system to determine the brake system is operating in a backup mode of operation. In response to determining the brake system is operating in the backup mode of operation, the brake system calculates a dynamic slip of the plurality of wheels.
