  • Patent number: 4855002
Abstract: Polymerizable acrylic monomer adhesive systems comprising thirty to eighty percent by weight powdered aluminum filler material are disclosed. More specifically, the adhesive compositions comprise at least one polymerizable acrylate monomer system; an effective amount for initiation of a free radical initiator; and elemental (atomized) aluminum metal powder or powdered alumina.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 13, 1989
Date of Patent: August 8, 1989
    Assignee: Loctite Corporation
Inventors: David J. Dunn, Patrick P. Vano, James P. Moran, Jr., Mark Holmes, Elliott Frauenglass
  • Patent number: 4813714
Abstract: An anaerobic sealant composition is employed to seal a pipe joint between pin and box members intended for use in petroleum drilling operations. The composition is applied to one or both of the members. The members are then joined and the composition cured into a solid form which bonds to the members and fills the space between them. The constituents of the composition can be selectively varied to control its lubricity which also affects the make up torque. Additionally, the concentration of the sealant composition can be selectively varied to control the break out torque of the joint to which it is applied, and preferably make the break out torque substantially greater than the make up torque. Excellent seals can be obtained using lower grade pipe, and the pin and box members can be made up with the application of lower torque to the assembly without reducing the sealing capabilty of the connection. The preferred composition also serves as a rust and corrosion inhibitor for the joint.

  • Patent number: 4409111
Abstract: A preapplied, non-migratory, anti-galling composition, capable of retaining excellent lubricating properties up to temperatures of about 1200.degree. F. for an extended period of time, comprising an aqueous dispersion of graphite powder or metal powder, or both, in a polymeric binder. The composition is especially useful for providing a lubricating agent for metallic threaded objects to be subjected to high temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4262106
Abstract: Polymerizable anaerobic compositions can be made more stable and capable of greater speed of cure by removing from the composition at least a substantial portion of the metal contamination.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 16, 1979
Date of Patent: April 14, 1981
    Assignee: Loctite Corporation
Inventors: Elliott Frauenglass, Jeremy W. Gorman
  • Patent number: 4038475
Abstract: Anaerobic compositions possessing high stability, and which are capable of extremely rapid speed of cure, are prepared by adding to a combination of a polymerizable acrylate ester monomer and a peroxy polymerization initiator therefor, a small but effective amount of a soluble metal chelating agent which does not materially affect the speed of cure of the anaerobic composition when used on metal surfaces.

  • Patent number: 3969552
Abstract: Porous articles impregnated with certain anaerobic polymerizable sealants and having a coating of such sealant on their surface can have such coating removed by dissolving the sealant in an aqueous solution of a surfactant having the general formula X.sup.1 --O(C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.x X.sup.2. The removal can be done at room temperature.
