Abstract: A lubricating oil dispersant is made by grafting an alkyl methacrylate or acrylate and maleic anhydride onto a Bright Stock mineral oil backbone using a free radical generating catalyst and then reacting the product with an amine to form amide or imide groups.

Abstract: Liquid fuels for use in internal combustion engines comprising (i) a major fraction of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline boiling range, (ii) a minor amount of ethanol and (iii) a detergent amount of(I) from about 20 to about 40 weight percent of the reaction product of:(A) one mole part of an alkylphenol having the formula: ##STR1## wherein n is an integer from 1 to 2, and R.sub.1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having an average molecular weight of from about 400 to 1500;(B) from 1-5 mole parts of an aldehyde having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.2 is selected from hydrogen and alkyl radicals containing 1-6 carbon atoms; and(C) from 0.5-5 mole parts of an amine having at least one active hydrogen atom bonded to an amino nitrogen atom, and(II) from about 3.0 to about 6.0 weight percent of a demulsifying agent containing:(A) at least one oil-soluble polyether characterized by the presence within its structure of a group of the formula:(--O-A--).sub.

Abstract: Deposit formation in distillation units, particularly column reboiler units, associated with the separation and purification of dialkyl phosphorochloridothioates from a crude material containing oxygenated compound impurities, is inhibited by incorporating in the feed stock a minor proportion (generally about 0.05 to about 15.0 weight percent) of the condensation product of phenol, and preferably a high molecular weight alkylphenol, an aldehyde and an amine having a H--N< group.

Abstract: A process for making a low viscosity, low volatility .alpha.-olefin oligomer suitable for use as a functional fluid or lubricating oil comprising dimerizing a C.sub.6-12 .alpha.-olefin, reacting the resultant dimer with a C.sub.6-18 .alpha.-olefin in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, distilling out volatile components and hydrogenating the residual product.

Abstract: Gasoline compositions and additive mixtures of esters of nitrilotriformic acid, in amount sufficient to alleviate the plugging of certain catalysts being used in an engine exhaust system to lower the amount of undesirable constituents in exhaust gas from an engine being operated on gasoline containing a cyclopentadienyl manganese antiknock.

Abstract: The useful life of a catalyst being used in an engine exhaust system to lower the undesirable constituents in the exhaust gas of an engine being operated on gasoline containing a cyclopentadienyl manganese antiknock is greatly prolonged by providing an exhaust system having a plurality of baffles in the exhaust flow path upstream from the catalyst forming a tortuous flow path.

Abstract: Gasoline compositions and additive mixtures containing compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently selected from hydrogen, hydrocarbyl radicals, and substituted hydrocarbyl radicals, and R.sub.4 is selected from hydrogen, hydrocarbyl radicals, substituted hydrocarbyl radicals, hydrocarbyloxy radicals, and hydrocarbyloxycarbonyl radicals, in an amount sufficient to alleviate the plugging of certain catalysts being used in an engine exhaust system to lower the amount of undesirable constituents in exhaust gas from an engine being operated on gasoline containing a cyclopentadienyl manganese antiknock.
