Abstract: A method for overhauling a steam turbine to increase its power without increasing its overall length. Existing seal assemblies containing seals other than brush seals are replaced with longitudinally-shorter replacement seal assemblies having only brush seals. An existing turbine section, such as a high-pressure turbine section, is replaced with a longitudinally-longer replacement turbine section having additional stages (i.e., additional rows of rotating buckets or blades).

Abstract: A steam turbine having a shaft and a first (e.g., high-pressure) turbine section. A first embodiment also includes a first bearing longitudinally spaced apart from the first turbine section and further includes a first brush-seal assembly, having bristles, longitudinally positioned between the first turbine section and the first bearing and radially positioned proximate the shaft. The steam turbine is devoid of any backup seal to the bristles. In a second embodiment, a second brush seal assembly is positioned between the first and second (e.g., intermediate-pressure) turbine sections which lack any intervening bearing.

Abstract: A fluid dispenser which includes a stationary, upstanding base and an arm assembly rotatably coupled to the upper end thereof. The dispenser includes a fluid meter and a fluid pump for metering and for pumping a selected quantity of fluid respectively. A fluid dispensing hose is fixedly connected at one end thereof to the pump and meter and has a fluid dispensing nozzle connected to the other end thereof. The hose includes a loop portion which extends outwardly from the arm assembly. A weighted roller is provided for urging the hose into a retracted position within the base.

Abstract: A batch controller for automatically and selectively controlling a plurality of material dispensers. The controller includes circuitry for metering, for slowing, and for terminating the flow of material in and at selectable quantity levels thereof. The apparatus includes a starting circuit that renders the apparatus inoperative in response to the absence or interruption of operating potential, and flow of the material is controlled by devices that provide fail-safe termination of flow in the event of failure.
