Abstract: A system and method of reducing radiation exposure during an X-ray procedure comprising the steps of: inserting an automated collimation device onto an X-Ray machine; implementing infrared or ultrasonic measuring features into the collimation device; measuring the distance of the X-ray source to the anatomy of a patient; measuring the thickness of the anatomy of the patient; and automatically adjusting the distance and degree of radiation emission based upon the results of distance and thickness measurements.
