    Abstract: A closed sterile bag system contains at least two separate compartments with communication between them temporarily blocked and with one of the compartments containing an erythrocyte sedimentation solution. The umbilical cord blood is collected and contacted with an anticoagulant whereupon the blockage is removed and the erythrocyte sedimentation solution is caused to contact the blood all within the closed sterile system.
