  • Publication number: 20110187037
Abstract: A method of positioning copy or subsets for the easy insertion of tabs thereinto that includes creating a shingled boundary between subsets, with the top sheets of all subsets in the same position, but with the rest of each subset progressively offset so that the last page of the upper subset is significantly offset from the top sheet of the next subset in sawtooth fashion. As a result, the subsets can then be separated from one side more easily and tabs or other pages can be manually inserted with minimal difficulty.

  • Publication number: 20110026050
Abstract: A light controlled laser imaging method includes exposing a surface layer of an imaging member substrate to a first expose source to render the surface layer uniformly hydrophilic, wherein the surface layer comprises a compound having reversible light controlled wettability whereby the surface layer is reversibly hydrophilic and hydrophobic; exposing the surface layer to a second expose source in an image-wise fashion to render image areas of the surface layer hydrophobic; exposing the surface layer to a polar liquid wherein the polar liquid attracts to non-image hydrophilic areas; exposing the surface layer to a hydrophobic liquid colorant wherein the hydrophobic liquid colorant attracts to hydrophobic image areas; contacting the surface layer with an image receiving substrate to transfer the image thereto; fixing the image; and optionally, treating the surface layer to remove residual hydrophobic liquid colorant.

  • Publication number: 20110023740
Abstract: A lithographic printing method including exposing an imaging surface layer of a printing plate to a first expose source to render the surface layer uniformly hydrophilic; the surface layer comprising a compound having reversible light controlled wettability whereby the surface layer is reversibly hydrophilic and hydrophobic. The surface layer is disposed over a variable image portion of the printing plate imaging surface or disposed over substantially all of the printing plate imaging surface. The surface is exposed to a second expose source to render image areas of the surface layer hydrophobic. Polar liquid attracts to non-image hydrophilic areas. Hydrophobic liquid colorant attracts to hydrophobic image areas. The surface layer is contacted an offset receiving member and the image is transferred to an image receiving substrate.

  • Publication number: 20100214590
Abstract: What is provided are a system, method, and computer program product for protecting information displayed on a fax confirmation page. Several embodiments are provided. In one embodiment, for example, a Gaussian kernel is used to blur the digitized image to be printed on the confirmation page. In one method, a large enough blur kernel is selected so that text of a certain size will be rendered illegible. A method is also provided wherein a copy of the first page of the faxed document used to provide the content to be displayed on the confirmation page of the faxed document is stored on a storage device. A character sequence which references the stored original content on the storage media is printed on the confirmation page. A new confirmation page can be reconstructed and printed if it is desirable to have the altered content made visibly legible. Various other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20100151433
Abstract: A system and method for generating a test and an answer key to identify correct answers is disclosed. A test can be created by entering a set of questions with answer choices and correct answers at the same time. The tests can be rendered via a rendering device that includes both the questions and the answer choices. A ticket can be generated that drives a CNC (computer numerically control) machine to create a punched answer key with holes that align over correct answers. The answer key can also be rendered on a transparency utilizing a solid color everywhere except an area where the correct answer should be marked. The test and the answer key can also be rendered and aligned side by side in order to identify correct answers.

  • Publication number: 20090201533
Abstract: A system and related method for creating an efficient shipping strategy for shipping printed material is disclosed. The system includes a communication component, an analysis component and a shipping component. The communication component communicates printing instructions. The printing instructions include image data and at least one job parameter. The analysis component communicates with the communication component and determines at least one physical property of a print job when formed according to the printing instructions. The shipping component generates shipping information in accordance with the at least one physical property.

  • Patent number: 7477239
Abstract: A dynamically reconfigurable input button display provided on an operational face of multi-function physically displaceable buttons allows easy dynamic display of various operating modes or functions associated with operation of the button. The button forms part of a user interface of a input device, such as a piece of office equipment or a hand-held electronics device. The buttons may form an array in which a plurality of discrete functionality displays are provided on each of the buttons. The display is a thin film device, such as an organic LED display.

  • Patent number: 7432818
Abstract: A device for monitoring wear in a component, including a radio frequency identification chip attached with the component and a sensor configured to monitor wear of the component, the sensor being in communication with the radio frequency identification chip. The sensor may be embedded within the component and may include a plurality of circuits of varying lengths to measure different stages of wear. The monitoring device may be employed in a roller, such as the fuser roller in a printing apparatus. The roller may be constructed from a multiplicity of non-conductive layers in which portions of the layers are doped with a conductive material to form the plurality of circuits for sensing wear. The monitoring device may also be employed in a belt for use in a printing apparatus. A printing apparatus may also employ a roller or belt equipped with the monitoring device along with a control system for periodically reading the chip and collecting the wear data.
