    Abstract: A magnetic transducer having a top pole and a bottom pole where the top pole is separated from the bottom pole by a gap layer. The top pole has a lower portion that faces the bottom pole. A middle section of the lower portion is separated from the bottom pole by a first distance and end sections of the lower portion are separated from the bottom pole by a second distance not equal to the first distance. The second distance is greater than 25% of the first distance.
