  • Patent number: 4990041
Abstract: An improved fastening device is disclosed for securing a longitudinally extending body member within an aperture of a workpiece. The fastening device is designed to accept resilient material after it is inserted within the workpiece. In one alternative embodiment the inserted resilient material acts in cooperation with the longitudinally extending body member to lock the device in place and to provide a support structure to the workpiece. In another alternative embodiment, the body member, after injection by the resilient material, assumes the shape of the workpiece aperture. In another alternative embodiment, structure fibers are added and held to the fastening device by the inserted resilient material.

  • Patent number: 4776738
Abstract: An improved fastening device is disclosed for securing within an aperture of a workpiece. The invention comprises a longitudinally extending body member for insertion within the aperture of the workpiece. The fastening device includes a locking shoulder secured to the longitudinally extending body member such that the shoulder is spaced relative to a surface of the workpiece by resilient material. A groove is disposed in the body member for receiving the resilient material for coacting between the body member and the workpiece for reducing undesired movement therebetween. In an alternative embodiment of the invention a fastening device is disclosed for the reception therein of a thermo-setting material, the device being secured within a plurality of apertures defined by a multi-layered workpiece. The fastening device includes a first lamina member which defines a first plurality of transverse bores each of which are aligned with an aperture of the plurality of apertures.

  • Patent number: 4490952
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for eliminating moisture from a moist-prone area such as an insulated roof or the like. The invention comprises a grid of hydrophilic material adjacent the moisture prone area. The grid comprises a first set of longitudinally extending hydrophilic elements and a second set of longitudinally extending hydrophilic elements disposed in a transverse relationship to the first set of hydrophilic elements. The grid enables moisture to travel along the first and second set of hydrophilic elements by capillary action. A vent is included for venting moisture accumulated in the first and second set of hydrophilic elements to remove moisture thereby.

  • Patent number: 4123980
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for depositing a growth altering material such as fertilizer to a plant rooted in soil. The apparatus includes a body member having a handle member extending relative thereto. A digging element extends from the body member having a substantially shovel-like region for digging into the soil upon application of a force on the handle member. A hopper for storing the fertilizer is secured relative to the body member. Gate means is provided in the hopper for containing the fertilizer in the hopper when the gate is in a first position and for liberating the growth altering material in proximity to the digging element when the gate is in a second position. A foot member secured to the body member in a substantially orthogonal relationship may be provided for facilitating digging into the soil. The gate means may be operated by a hand lever secured to the handle member and connected by a flexible cable extending through the body member to the gate means.

  • Patent number: 4104987
Abstract: A bird feeding device is disclosed for distributing bird feed comprising a first and a second member secured relative to one another. One of the first and second members includes a protruding portion forming a bird feed reservoir between the first and second members. The first member has a region in proximity to the bird feed reservoir adapted for at least partial removal from the remainder of the first member for maintaining the bird feed in the bird feed reservoir when the region is intact and for enabling access to the bird feed in the bird feed reservoir when the region is at least partially removed. The device may be constructed of a blister type plastic member in combination with a cardboard member with the bird feed contained in the bird feed reservoir making a disposable bird feeder.

  • Patent number: 4067078
Abstract: An adjustable back support comprising a plurality of individual compartments which may be either equally or variably dimensioned to hold predetermined amounts of fluid therein. Fluid, either in the form of air or liquid, or both, are introduced into the fluid segregated compartments so as to expand the various compartments a predetermined amount in conformity to portions of a user's back. The compartments may be arranged in longitudinally aligned sets so as to provide greater versatility in conforming the individual portions or compartments of the back support to the body of the user. The valve assemblies may include both fluid and liquid flow valves such that heated fluid, either in the form of air or liquid, may be introduced into one or all of the various compartments to provide maximum comfort to the user.

  • Patent number: 4061272
Abstract: An irrigation device in the form of an elongated conduit of predetermined length wherein the conduit comprises a one piece wall of plastic material formed by extrusion in a continuous length. The conduit comprises at least two compartments having specific relative dimensions and disposed in fluid communication with one another wherein the configuration and disposition of the two compartments are defined by the configuration of the single wall portion which is formed from the single piece of extruded material. Dispersion means in the form of a strip of elongated liquid permeable material is mounted within one of the compartments and configured to extend outwardly to the exterior of the conduit whereby liquid is dispersed through the two compartments to the exterior of the conduit through the liquid permeable dispersion element by a capillary-type action.
