  • Patent number: 8071004
Abstract: The present invention relates to closures for mating with containers having a threaded finish. The closures comprise a flange and a skirt downwardly depending therefrom. The skirt includes a deformable element formed of a different material than that of the flange and skirt and disposed on an interior surface. The deformable element inner diameter is smaller than the outer diameter of the container, and accordingly deforms upon mating the closure with the container. The container threads impress threads into the deformable element to form threads on the closure. The deformable element is formed of a suitable material. The closures of the present invention provide for the use of high-speed press-on capping equipment.

  • Patent number: 7004341
Abstract: A composite closure type container assembly that is designed for use with unthreaded containers includes a container having an unthreaded outer surface and an opening that is defined by an upper rim, a sealing disc that is sized and shaped to cover the opening and to seal against the upper rim and a securement member that is removably anchored to the container for securing the sealing disc on the container. In one embodiment, the securement member is removably anchored to the container by using a tight frictional engagement. In a second embodiment, the anchoring is accomplished by shaping the container so as to have a downwardly depending skirt that engages and retains the securement member in position until the container assembly is opened.

  • Patent number: 6974046
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a vented tamper evident closure of the J-hook type to a container involves a closure of the type including a base, a downwardly depending sidewall portion and a tamper evident band. The tamper evident band is frangibly connected to the sidewall portion and includes a main band portion and a J-hook retention member that includes a plurality of retaining elements and a corresponding plurality of flexible web elements. Advantageously, the retention member is originally molded in a first position wherein it is positioned substantially beneath and in alignment with the main band portion of the tamper evident band. This molding position creates substantial manufacturing advantages. When the closure is installed onto the container, the retention member is circumferentially compressed and folds inwardly as it is moved to a second, engaged position wherein it is bent upwardly and inwardly to engage the container.

  • Publication number: 20050167297
Abstract: An improved easy open closure for a container that is particularly adapted for use by the disabled includes a plunger member having a passage defined therein that is constructed and arranged to be depressed with respect to a main body portion of the closure in order to breach a seal in order to place the passage in communication with the contents of the container. Structure may be provided for preventing access to or movement of the plunger member until opening of the closure is desired. A method of using an easy open closure is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050167296
Abstract: A dispensing closure assembly includes a container having a threaded finish portion, at least one modular sealed vial that contains a substance, and a closure cap that is adapted to be screwed on to the container. The closure cap includes a closure main body having a top portion and a downwardly depending sidewall portion that is adapted to be secured to the container. An insert is positioned between the closure cap and the container for opening the modular sealed vial when the closure cap is screwed on to the container. A method of dispensing a substance into the container is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050167295
Abstract: A dispensing container assembly includes a container having a threaded finish portion, at least one modular sealed vial that contains a substance, and a closure cap that is adapted to be screwed on to the container. The closure cap includes a closure main body having a top portion and a downwardly depending sidewall portion that is adapted to be secured to the container. An insert is positioned between the closure cap and the container for securing the modular sealed vial to the closure cap. The closure cap further includes structure for unsealing the sealed vial, and the inset includes releasing structure for releasing the unsealed vial from the vial securing structure in order that it may fall into the container. A method of dispensing a substance into the container is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20040142128
Abstract: A preform includes a tapered surface having projections formed thereon for contacting an adjacent, nested preform. The projections facilitate removal of a preform that has been inserted into an adjacent preform during shipping or handling prior to the reheat stage. A mold for forming the preforms all includes the projections.

  • Patent number: 6702133
Abstract: A retortable all-plastic closure having a generally circular top portion and a generally cylindrical downwardly depending skirt. The top portion has upper and lower surfaces. The lower surface of the top portion forms a circumferentially extending ridge that projects downwardly. The ridge forms a first structural wall. A second structural wall is formed in the top portion adjacent the first wall. A flexible liner made from a thermoplastic elastomer is bonded to the lower surface. The portion of the liner covering the first structural wall forms a downwardly extending liner wall. The portion of the liner covering the second structural wall forms a top liner wall. The diameter of the downwardly extending liner wall is greater than the diameter of the top of the container neck inner wall to which the closure is applied so that the container neck compresses substantially the entirety of the downwardly projecting liner wall.

  • Patent number: 5423504
Abstract: A bracket assembly for supporting an ornamental box having a bottom and peripherally contiguous side and end walls defining outer box surfaces having a preestablished design embossed thereon. A pair of brackets are included in the assembly for supporting opposite ends of the ornamental box. Each of the pair of brackets has a horizontal floor to underlie the bottom of the box adjacent the end walls thereof, and a vertically oriented, generally U-shaped containment wall having inner and outer bracket surfaces. The lower end portions of the outer box surfaces are recessed to receive the U-shaped containment walls in a manner so that the preestablished design on the box surfaces is extended to include the outer bracket surfaces, and so that the box is removably supported by the brackets against lateral displacement by the inner bracket surfaces.
