  • Patent number: 5464982
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for measuring the concentration of carbon dioxide in respiratory gases. The apparatus is a non-dispersive gas analyzer attached in series with the respiratory airway which is universally compatible with any host system. The analyzer includes a housing which supports a sample cell containing the respiratory gases, and which contains an infrared radiation source encased in shock absorbing material, means for directing the radiation into a collimated beam path through the sample cell, means for splitting the beam path and directing it towards a pair of infrared detectors for measuring the amount of absorption of carbon dioxide in the sample cell. The analyzer is further improved by the use of two heating servos, one for regulating the temperature of the sample cell windows in order to inhibit condensation build-up and one for regulating the ambient temperature surrounding the detectors so as to ensure more accurate measurements.

  • Patent number: 5146283
Abstract: A spectrophotometer sample cell is described having a housing defining a frusto-conical chamber with inlet and outlet windows at each end. The inlet window is positioned toward the energy source of the spectrophotometer and the outlet window, which is the larger diameter window, is positioned toward the detector assembly of the spectrophotometer. A single outlet passage is positioned between a pair of inlet passages, the latter being toward respective ends of the chamber. The interior surface of the sample cell is provided with means for preventing a substantial portion of reflected energy impinging on the sample cell walls from reaching the detector. Such means include irregularities, annular walls, and wavelength absorbing colors. A trough is provided in the bottom of the larger end of the frusto-conical chamber for conveying condensate to the outlet passage.

  • Patent number: 4325127
Abstract: A selectively energizable flow meter system comprising a valve having at least one fluid inlet port for receiving fluid under pressure and a plurality of fluid distribution ports and including a valve element selectively movable to direct liquid to predetermined fluid distribution ports, a metering device, and valve element positioning mechanism connected to the valve element. The valve element positioning mechanism is operable upon energization of the system to establish fluid flow communication between the metering device and at least one valve fluid distribution port and responsive to de-energization of the system to direct pressurized fluid entering the valve fluid inlet port to a valve fluid distribution port bypassing the metering device.

  • Patent number: 4139469
Abstract: A fluid control mechanism utilizing a housing having an opening or tunnel through the interior of the same. The housing provides at least one chamber communicating with the housing opening. A seat positions within the housing opening and the chamber. A plug, adapted to occupy the seat and close to restricted passage, positions within the first chamber. Particulate filter means comprising a pressure deformable section which includes a passage to the housing opening partially filled by a relatively rigid filter element. A gap in the filter means passage allows compression of the deformable section.

  • Patent number: 3976400
Abstract: A high pressure positive displacement gradient pump for two flowable materials utilizing two reciprocating pistons with the pair of pistons pumping in an overlapping reasonably pulse free manner. The gradient of the two flowable materials is created by adjustment of the stroke of each piston. Streams for the pair of pistons are combined and mixed in a mixing chamber. A third pair of pistons may deliver the mixed stream at high pressure to the desired location.
