  • Patent number: 4681236
Abstract: A drinking glass having a press-molded stem and a base (or pedestal), comprising at least one hollow passage extending approximately horizontally and transversely through the stem. An insert, formed of, for example, a colored plastic, may be fitted into the hollow passage.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 22, 1985
Date of Patent: July 21, 1987

  • Patent number: 4321075
Abstract: A process and apparatus for skimming the surface of molten glass in a tank to produce a portion thereof free of contamination includes driving a substantially horizontally disposed strut connected to a scraper arm so as to pivot the strut to raise the scraper arm for horizontal movement above the glass surface, pivot the strut to effect vertical movement of the scraper arm to immerse the arm in the melt, retract the strut to horizontally move the arm while immersed to effect skimming and thereafter simultaneously pivoting and retracting the strut to effect both vertical and horizontal movement of the arm.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: March 23, 1982
    Inventors: Emil Ilk, Helmut Sorg
  • Patent number: 4241546
Abstract: The invention relates to a holding device for cup-shaped glassware articles in a glass processing machine, especially in a bursting and grinding machine, wherein the cup is placed into the holding device prior to commencement of the processing operation. The cup is retained during processing of the articles in the holding device which comprises a cup-shaped holding element the cavity of which receives said cup. The base portion of the cup may be engaged by a rotating holder of said glass processing machine, and the marginal inner face of said holding element mounts means for retaining cup as it is transferred from station to station in the machine.

  • Patent number: 4185419
Abstract: The present invention relates to a working method for the automatic bursting-off and grinding of the edges of glasses, particularly automatically manufactured shaft or stemmed glasses as discharged from the glass blowing automaton upon attaching the stem including the base or foot, as well as an automatic machine for carrying out such method.

  • Patent number: 4094660
Abstract: Stemmed glassware is produced by an apparatus in which the stem is formed separately and is subsequently joined to the cup at the final phase of the blowing operation of the cup glass. In the apparatus a first rotatable platen having cup molds is provided for blowing of the cups and a second rotatable platen having stem molds is provided for forming the stems. A drop of glass for producing the stems is dropped through a very short distance of about 20 to 40 mm. to prevent excessive cooling of the glass drop and to assit in centering the glass drop in longitudinally divided stem molds. A ring centers the mold halves of the stem molds and a surface on the ring molds a part of the stem base. The second platen rotates the stem molds through a pressing station at which the glass drop is pressed to form the stem to a transfer station at which a transfer means transfers the finished stems from the second rotatable platen and attaches the stems to the cups on the first rotatable platen.
