  • Patent number: 10023066
Abstract: A method for determining a status of a vehicle battery includes determining an initial temperature and an initial state of charge of the battery, determining a current threshold value based on the initial temperature and the initial state of charge of the battery, starting the vehicle engine, charging the battery for a predetermined charging period t1, measuring two charging currents, I1 and I2, to the battery at two predetermined points in time during the charging period t1, determining an expected current value at a time t3=t1+t2 based on the measured charging currents, comparing the expected current value with the current threshold value, and determining the battery is faulty if the expected current value is lower than the current threshold value.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 17, 2018
    Assignee: Volvo Car Corporation
Inventors: Torbjorn Larsson, Alexander Engstrom, Linus Franzen, Mats Thorngren, Fabian Fogelberg, Pelle Thorson, Petter Almhagen, Emil Wall, Daniel Midholm
  • Patent number: 9864011
Abstract: A method for performing a diagnostic test of an alternator, a test arrangement and a vehicle are provided. The method may include running an engine, providing a signal representative of a pre-determined environmental condition to the alternator, providing an output voltage and output current to a battery based on the pre-determined environmental condition, and determining a battery voltage. The method may also include comparing the determined battery voltage with a pre-defined reference-voltage representative of the pre-determined environmental condition and outputting an approved test result if the difference between the determined battery voltage and the pre-defined reference voltage falls within a predetermined range.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 2014
Date of Patent: January 9, 2018
    Assignee: Volvo Car Corporation
Inventors: Torbjorn Larsson, Emil Wall, Mats Thorngren, Pelle Thorson, Aryan Madadi
