  • Patent number: 5855742
Abstract: A device for drilling a layer of coke within a reactor to effect the decoking of the reactor includes a decoking tool arranged at one end of a hose for conveying a decoking fluid to the tool. The decoking tool has a first part and a second part coaxial with the first part. The second part has means for ejecting the decoking fluid against the coke layer, including a first ejection means for ejecting the fluid in a substantially axial direction downwardly to penetrate the coke layer, a second ejection means ejecting the fluid in a substantially lateral direction and a third ejection means for ejecting the fluid in a substantially upward direction to remove any coke accumulated above the tool.

  • Patent number: 5494067
Abstract: The characteristics of a device for regulating and damping the composition fluctuations of a multiphase flow comprising a tank or surge drum and a sample tube located between a source of effluents and a multiphase pump are optimized by selecting the volume of the tank and the distribution of the apertures of the sample tube so as to define an average level around which the level of the liquid-gas interface is stabilized and so that the volume of the liquid phase corresponding to this average level is at least equal to the volume of liquid necessary to discharge any foreseeable volume of gaseous phase coming from the source of effluents. In case of a large volume of gaseous phase, an unpierced tube is introduced inside the sample tube.

  • Patent number: 5393202
Abstract: Transfer by pumping of effluents containing at least one gas phase and at least one liquid phase in a transfer line connecting a source of effluents is optimized by interposing on the line, between the source and the point of designation, a multiphase pump. The rotating speed of the pump is regulated so as to adapt the pump flow rate to at least one of the following parameters: flow rate variation well, variation of the volumetric ratio GLR or pressure drop variations occurring in the line during transfer. The values of the parameters are controlled and adjusted to values comparable with the operation of the pump.

  • Patent number: 5377714
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for transferring a multiphase effluent whatever the value of its gas phase/liquid phase volumetric ratio GLR may be. The value of the GLR is determined by means of a measuring device D, before it reaches a separation tank, when the measured value of the GLR is greater than a boundary value, part of the gas phase is discharged through compression means in connection with the tank, as long as the level of the liquid-gas interface in the tank is below a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 4789970
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and device for determining the positioning of an element or target using at least one acoustic emitting-receiving sensor. In this method only the signal received by said sensor and due to the diffraction of the signal emitted by said sensor is taken into account.

  • Patent number: 4619762
Abstract: Devices for recovering polymetal compounds discharged from a submarine hydrothermal source comprise a bell-shaped collector member provided with a flexible skirt and placed just above the hydrothermal source to cover it substantially tightly. The device includes means connected to said collector for withdrawing hydrothermal fluid from the source and means are provided for concentrating the polymetal compounds thereof by settling or by centrifugation with a pipe for raising the so-concentrated flow to a surface installation associated with a bottom turbine energized by power derived from the hydrothermal fluid energy.

  • Patent number: 4468155
Abstract: Method for placing two submerged elements in a relative determined position, particularly in view of their mutual connection, comprising a first step of controlling the relative displacement of said elements on the basis of the measurement of electric values so as to ensure the alignment of a central point of one end of one element with the longitudinal axis of the other and a second step of progressively bringing the two elements in contact with each other by their relative displacement controlled on the basis of the measurement of their relative distance and mutual inclination angle, by means of acoustic emitters-receivers.
