  • Patent number: 3971831
Abstract: A process is provided for the semihydrogenation of the olefinic group in conjugated position to a carbonyl group in citral and homologous dienic aldehydes. The dienic aldehyde is hydrogenated catalytically using a palladium catalyst, and in solution in a lower aliphatic alcohol in the presence of an alkali or alkaline earth metal borate. The process is of particular application to the semihydrogenation of citral to citronellal.
