Abstract: A medical device operable to deliver a fluid to a patient, including a base having a base body and a hollow cannula for insertion into a patient, the hollow cannula being one of fixed to the base and movable relative to the base to a patient insertion position. The base body includes a fluid pathway that is one of fluidly connected with the hollow cannula and fluidly connectable with the hollow cannula. The fluid pathway includes a pathway portion sealed with a sealer, and the pathway portion includes an adsorbent operable to modify a fluid traversing the pathway portion by removing one or more compounds or substances from the fluid prior to delivery of the fluid to the patient through the hollow cannula.

Abstract: A delivery device for delivering medicament, such as insulin, to a patient includes a housing and a base enclosing an inner cavity. Enclosed within the housing is a reservoir for containing a medicament, a delivery mechanism for delivering the medicament to the patient, and a pump in fluid communication with the reservoir and delivery mechanism. The base has an integrally formed fluid channel in fluid communication with the reservoir and the delivery mechanism and a filter media containing an adsorbent positioned in the fluid channel to contact the medicament and remove at least a portion of a stabilizing compound from the medicament carried through the fluid channel.

Abstract: A delivery device (10, 40, 100) for delivering a substance, such as an insulin formulation, to a patient includes a storage container (12, 112) containing the insulin formulation, a delivery member (20, 42) connected to the storage container by a fluid pathway for injecting the insulin formulation into the patient for delivering the insulin formulation to the patient at a controlled basal flow rate or bolus flow. The delivery device can have a pump mechanism for delivering the substance to the patient. An activated charcoal adsorbent (51 57, 87) or activated carbon is positioned in the fluid pathway between the storage container and the delivery member for removing at least a portion of a phenolic stabilizing agent from the insulin formulation before delivering to the patient.
