Abstract: A multi-layer cast for immobilizing a body member of a patient includes a hydrophobic sleeve having a shape configured to be applied over the body member and substantially conform to the shape of the body member, and a moldable layer configured to be positioned around said sleeve and hardened to conform to the shape of said body member adjacent said sleeve is presented. The hydrophobic sleeve includes fibers configured to wick moisture outward away from the body member, and the moldable layer includes a network of pores that extend through the moldable layer such that the pores are configured to contact the hydrophobic sleeve to promote flow of moisture from the hydrophobic sleeve outward through the moldable layer.
